Elijah Gilbert Moffitt, 88, went to be with the Lord, Friday, Jan. 17, 2014. He was surrounded by his family, whom he deeply loved. He was born in Taylor, Texas to Haskill and Janie Moffitt. Elijah came to Chattanooga when he was 12. He sold newspaper for the News-Free Press in downtown Chattanooga. He served in the Navy during WWII. He retired from Lockheed-Martin as Division Manager after 37 years of service. He was a member of Hixson Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and traveling. He was a member of the East Lake Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Reba; his children, Wendell (Carolyn) Moffitt, Sue (Don) Zimmer, Deborah (David) Jackson and Mike (Eileen) Moffitt. His grandchildren are Greg Moffitt, Tara Shaw and Steven Moffitt; Anna Baker and Brud Millard; Jonathan and Jennifer Jackson, Amy and Chrissy Moffitt. He had seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at Hixson Presbyterian Church with Pastors Robert Johnson and Jim Powell officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. at the church.
