Nathan Prouty

Nathan S. "Papa Steen" Prouty departed this life on Thursday, June 5, 2014, following a third bout with cancer. Mr. Prouty was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Following his discharge from service, Mr. Prouty, a native of Beaumont, Texas, moved to Chattanooga. He was an employee of the city of Chattanooga before starting his own business, Prouty Heating & Air. He is survived by Sammie Prouty, his wife of 41 years; three children, Richard (Jennifer) Tate, Julie (Jim) Henegar, and Terri Mathis; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his sister, Gail Broaddus; his niece, Theresa Smallen; and his nephew, Phil Prouty. Friends are invited to join the family for a celebration of his life and fellowship at Bayside Baptist Church at 11 a.m., Monday, June 9. A graveside service for the family will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 3 p.m. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Please visit to share words of comfort to the family.
