Thomas Crawford

Thomas Hampton Crawford, 74, died on Friday, March 14, 2014. The son of the late James Hampton and Kathryn Chalkley Crawford, he was born in Chattanooga and grew up on Lookout Mountain where he was an acolyte at the Church of the Good Shepherd. Mr. Crawford graduated from City High School in 1957 and attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. Mr. Crawford worked for his fathers businesses, the Cavalier Corporation, Furniture Wholesalers, and Pro Golf in Chattanooga, as well as Oster Corporation and his own tax preparation business in Dayton. Mr. Crawford was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Dayton. He moved to Riverview following his retirement and continued his avid interests in UT football, billiards, politics, NASCAR racing and family genealogy. He was preceded in death by his sons, Jeffrey Scott and James Wesley Crawford. Survivors include his fianc, Patricia Caldwell Miller, of Chattanooga; daughter, Tommye Crawford (Mike) Pendergrass, of Pikeville; grandsons, Anthony and Shane (Patty) Pendergrass; great-grandchildren, Lilly and Ryder Pendergrass; sisters, Kathryn Wilcox, of Lewisburg, W.Va. and Susan Cornish, of Greenville, W.Va., and Claiborne Md.; five nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. Following Mr. Crawfords wishes, his body will be donated to the Meharry Medical College. Family and friends will gather to share memories of his life from 2-4 p.m. on today, March 16, 2014 with a memorial service being held at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
