I suppose those who oppose hunting would prefer that the deer population goes out of control and the deer begin starving and dying from disease.
Why is it that we always hear that there is overpopulation of any species. Oh yeah, it is easy to convince people to have them killed if they use that excuse!
It is like saying that God made a mistake and man who is so intelligent will take care of the problem for him. The only overpopulation on this earth is man. We have taken over every living space so that these creatures and others have no where to go. Keep using this stupid and unintelligent excuse...there are to many of them! There are to many of us and the fact that the only thing man can come up with to 'control others' is to kill them.
We should be better than this...DO THE RIGHT THING!
Why do we have to destroy soothing to fix a problem? Moving them is an option and harms nothing.
libover30, let us know how you feel about overpopulation of deer when you hit one on the highway someday and total your car. There wouldn't even be much of a deer population in TN without hunters and the TWRA who helped boost their population in a controlled environment over the years. There was once a time, believe it or not, when deer were very scarce in this area. Now, there are too many, and the only way to control them is to have quota hunts and hunting season itself which has limits as to how many deer can be killed in each season (archery, muzzleloader, gun).
Carl, how do you recommend we "move" the deer from overpopulated areas?? I'd love to hear what you think.
Moving deer is easy. Just use a tranquilizer to subdue the deer and then load them onto a truck and remove them to a wildlife area. They can also be captured by a three sided net then subdued and removed. I believe the people at Chickamauga Park have done this. They do not allow hunts in any National Military Park, so why allow them here.
Common sense people. I work in the area and we pamper our local deer and it sucks to see lame and dead ones due to more traffic comming in because of the wonderful companies that are being built to give people jobs in this area!
Controlled hunts are a good solution to overpopulation of a species. If populations are not kept down these deer will become sick and hungry in the future months ahead.
I can't believe some people just don't get it! Relocate? WTF. Tree hugging idiots.
It's OK to let Bambi slowly starve to death, get hit by a car and left to die slowly and excruciatingly in the brush along the road, or to suffer from and spread who knows what kinds of diseases [Lyme disease??].
But God forbid someone might actually get to eat something they hunted.
One thing...with the deer population rising, the coyotes won't be far behind...and they eat dogs, cats, and [occasionally] little children. Nature's thinning should help to cut down that population, too.
Mountain lion follow the deer, too. They are really great -- they hunt the hunters...and hikers stupid enough to go in the woods unarmed.
Nature -- The Population Leveler.
My comment is that the "lottery" system that allows hunting is "fixed" and only cronies and county employees are given the chance to hunt. Basically it is Littlefield's private hunt club.
Perhaps we could bring in some Jaegermiesters and do it German style. sheesh.
Great now we have some 2 bit panty waist attorney that wants to challenge our right to proffesionally handle the same process that has worked for over 33
years. How about lets be a$$holes and remove the nature park and not share it and get the ammunition park back like it has been for 77 years. Up yours Dixon
Move the deer?
Move them from a park that has a 4 day a year hunting season to a location where they are subject to many more days of a state wide hunting season?
Out of sight, out of mind?
Too bad the deer don't have compound bows. Man has infringed on their territory. Why don't all you good ole boys have try picking on each other, instead of an innocent creature that can't fight back? Now that would be something worth writing about.
If the deer had compound bows there would not be a hunter left in the woods @ the deer would still be over populated.........
You do realize that they have quota hunts on Military BASES right? Ft. Campbell is my favorite. Parks are run more often than not by Nanny state Liberals.
It a shame that Dixon is putting up a good fight for Enterprise South and she really doesnt seem to understand what she is fighting for. Why Enterprise South deer?Whats so special about these deer? Are they cuter than the cow in the hamburger bun? Do they have more feelings than the chicken in the nugget? There is a big misunderstanding about what a hunter is.Yes there are the few who like to call themselves"trophy hunters" but the majority are true outdoorsman. The people who desire to be in the great outdoors runs thru their very soul and must immerse themselvesin all of the bountys that nature has to offer.Hunters are the true conservationist. This go bak to Teddy Roosevelt,a legendary sportsman, who established conservation programs and wildlife preserves. Conservation groups were and stiil are composed primarily of hunters to secure the restoration of Americas wildlife for future generations. The Federal Aid In Wildlife Act was passed to fund this restoration. This is a tax placed on hunting equipment(guns,ammo,bows,etc..)that is put right back into conservation.Everytime a hunter makes a purchase 11% of that is distributed to state agencies to support wildlife management programs and to purchase public land(parks for example)This amounts to nearly 200 million dollars making hunters, yes thats hunters, one of the largest contributers to conservation. So one of your favorite parks to jog or ride your bike in was very well made possible by hunters not vegans with pickets(which by the way i was a vegan for 16 years). I know everytime i pull a frozen pack of venison from my freezer i remember that deer and give thanks for providing nourishment for my family. Hunters want to protect the very animals that provide the ultimate in clean, organic, healthy eating. And just in case you were thinking that hunters were wasteful then check into Hunters For the Hungry. In Tennessee they collected 65,0000lbs of venison to go into local food banks and soup kitchens!Whats been your contribution? National Geographic has an interesting comment"The irony is many species might not survive if it were not for the hunters who hunt them". Sportsman want to see future generations enjoy themselves in the great outdoors and reaping natures bounty just as they have with proper land and animal management. So the next time you are out hiking on public land enjoying the sights and sounds of birds and wildlife remember that it was made possible by sportsman. And if you need a "real" conservation group to join there are nearly 10,000 sportsman club who generate another 300 million dollars a year for wildlife programs(NWTF,Ducks Unlimited,NRA,RMEF,etc...) So the next time you bump into a guy or gal sporting camo dont forget to say thanks!!! Who am i...a mom, nature lover, hunter!!!!
