Ed Jones, owner of Nutrition World,
has a lifelong commitment and belief
in our bodies’ ability to stay healthy
and to regain lost health. However,
Jones said, the only way to achieve this level of
health is if nutritional needs are addressed fully.“There is a true shortage of information and knowledge in this area of health and staying well,” Jones said. “I have witnessed thousands of people over 30 years prove to me that our bodies are designed to be disease free and to have optimal health, but many are unaware of the vital importance of nutrition in the reaching this goal of superior health.”
Nutrition World was started by Jones in 1979 with its fi rst location at Four Squares Mall on Mountain Creek Rd. Nutrition World then moved to Brainerd Village Shopping Mall which is where it thrived for 24 years. In May of 2008, the company relocated to its present location at 6201 Lee Hwy., one block past Sam’s Warehouse.
“We are so very fortunate to now be in an excellent location and be able to offer almost everything in natural health and nutrition,” Jones said.
Jones’ fi rst job was working at General Nutrition at Northgate Mall where he realized quickly his affi nity for natural health. He joined the Chattanooga Police Department in 1978, and as much as Jones enjoyed working as a street offi cer, he longed to own his own business. Soon that longing took over and Jones left the department to follow his dream of owning Nutrition World.
“One of the greatest challenges early on in Nutrition World was the total non-acceptance of nutritional supplements and health food by any part of the medical community,” Jones said. “We were viewed as a hippie store that sold granola in the early years, but thankfully times have changed and alternative approaches are now used by at least 50 percent of the public.”
Jones said there were also periods of time where legislation was pending that would have essentially put them out of business because of strict laws from the federal government. It has not always been easy, but Jones and his family managed to pull through.
“One of my greatest benefi ts of my business is listening and learning from so many customers in regard to their personal experiences in their pursuit of health,” Jones said. “I have estimated that I have consulted with over 200,000 people over the past 30 years and what a wonderful learning experience that has been for me.”
Some characteristics of Nutrition World that set it apart from competitors are: it is local, the owner has a true passion for natural health and employees are trained carefully so they are incredibly knowledgeable about natural heath matters.
Nutrition World has become Chattanooga’s holistic healing center that now offers acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, one-onone personal training, physical therapy, an aesthetician, energy balancing, qigong, yoga and pilates.
“My goals for the next years are to simply continue to refi ne our knowledge base in my staff and offer more variety of therapies for those interested in alternative treatments,” Jones said. “I also expect to further promote our selection of grass-fed, antibiotic-free beef, gluten free foods, ideal protein weight loss program, safe athletic supplements and much more.”
Customers also have the opportunity to listen to holistic speakers from the comfort of their own homes. Jones fi nds speakers to lecture on all areas of natural health and healing and posts the lectures on Nutrition World’s website, a service that is free to the public.
“If there is one thing about being healthy that I feel is very important, that is the need to learn,” Jones said. “Learning about new ideas and implementing these ideas is how your health can truly change and Nutrition World can be your partner in this goal.”
