BackupQB's comment history

Good hoops, good announcing, good storylines, and some controversy ... What does the gang think about the quality of the coaching in the Dance? Yes, major up's to FGC's Einfield; but did anyone else question Kennedy's decision to let Wichita take the clock down for the last shot, while employing a soft zone (isn't the goal of a 2-3 zone to force an outside shot, rather than allowing an entry pass, or worse, a drive to the cup) that allowed the Shocker to get to the basket? Also, he didn't even have Henderson on the floor for the desperation heave to follow. Kennedy, who was already a sketchy dude (remember the cab driver incident), sold his soul by taking Henderson (his 4th school). Guess it was worth it - winning the SEC and an NCAA game - but Henderson could have carried the Rebel Black Bears further. As for the tie-breaker, I'll take the over on Chuck and 3 bills.

Oval - where can I find the article you mentioned about the UT Athletic Department doing a study on recruiting from the 90's heyday through the Dooley years?
Jay - noticed Stephen's article on the 2014 prospects - couple of questions ... How does this list get generated - do Jrs already have "star rankings" on rivals? Heard that UT held a Junior Day in the last week or so - philosophically/strategically, why would they invest that kind of time/effort/energy to 2014 when it was "crunch time" for the 2013 class? Is that a trend that is going on nationally or regionally? In Tennessee's case, does that hurt them as they are trying to 'close' on this class? Finally, did you hear about the kid from FL that his Mom ran off with his papers because he was going to sign with Arkansas? Gotta love signing day!

Clowney is ridiculous, but the route of the courts would drag out until the draft. I like RW vs RG3 - a step slower with the injury. If I'm an NFL GM, I look at Reid, who was sabotaged by the inconsistency of Vick. Personally, I'd like to see Gruden come back ... Maybe because of the UT coaching search debacle, but I'd like to see Chucky put up or shut up - his ego is growing with every rumor.

Speaking of ego, how about Lane Kiffin! How much longer does he survive in LA? The fans on their message board are killing him - late to the bowl dinner; unmotivated team tanked it against a 6-7 opponent that had to petition to get in the bowl game; players tweeting about how they hated going to El Paso - his smugness, lack of discipline, win-at-all-costs lack of class mentallity are off the charts. I thought Al Davis was a crazy old kook in his latter years, but ... Al Davis was right ... And way smarter than Mike Hamilton. Kiffin is a fraud.

Nice work on all predictions - lot to look forward to in 2013. Question for all - we're all fans of some team, right? Does it make you a bigger (better) fan to root against your fav team's rivals? Many fans today will "root for the conference" ... As a Johnny Vols Fan, I am channel surfing and rooting AGAINST the Bullies, Cocks, and especially the Dawgs! Is that wrong? Who is the truer fan - he who roots for the conference in bowl games or the guy who hates all conference foes? Disclaimer - this ain't sour grapes since my team sucks ... I've always felt that way (but I am struggling with cheering for the Irish next week).

No Doctor Lou or Dickie V? Where's Steven A and Skip? Just kidding, but I do like Tony Reali. Thoughts?

Bipsy, what did Kiffin do? I missed that.

JMC, I see. For pure speculation, UTC moving up would be fun. Personally, I'd love to see an FCS playoff run ... And another bid to the hoops big dance with at least one upset W. Guess I'm a couple days late to make a request to Santa. June Jones

You never, ever bet against JUNE JONES on the big island! While I liked Fresno (remember ex-coach Pat Hill's mantra of "anyone, anytime, anywhere") too, how I go against June's Ponies? You, Weeds, and Bipsy have created the super list of do-overs - none to add. JMC, how exactly would the Mocs afford to jump to big boy ball? Finances plaque our local school.

Really? Butch friggin' Jones? That's the best TN can do? ZERO wins against ranked teams. Never coached or recruited in the Southeast. Inherited a good situation from Brian Kelly twice - followed up Kelly's Sugar Bowl team in Cincy with a 4-8 campaign.

So Hart (by the way, does he apply too much grecian formula?) promised a home run ... was this a bloop single to the opposite field? Was it an infield hit? I know everyone is going to say - we won't know that answer until recruiting wraps up ... or he coaches a game ... but, today I, a JVF4L, feel like TN has folded ... quicker than a $2 hooker that just punched in the gut by a guy named Vinny.

JVF's best hope now is that Butch (by the way, no relation to June Jones) gets so excited about his FIRST TRIP SOUTH OF THE MASON-DIXON LINE that he "goes Mike Price" at the Flora-Bama Lounge when the SEC meetings commence in Destin this Spring. We have to get photos of him ... find any skeletons in his closet.

Todd - LOVE the Hargis as X-Pac visual!

Is it safe to say now that Dave Hart fired a coach without a plan in place? Or has his master plan just fallen apart? Wouldn't you think that he would have conducted some research to find out who was interested and who wasn't before he fired Dooley? He had a 1 week head-start on Auburn ... and should have had a contingency plan since at least mid-October. Hart may end up hitting a home run ... but right now looks like another strikeout! Should we blame Cheek instead of Hart?
