Hey Big

If you are using a bitmap file instead of a jpeg file that might be the problem as to why you can't load a avatar up.

When you load it up on the computer make sure it is that file ok. Then come to the site logg on your account and hit browse that should bring it up after you load it to your computer. Select a picture and hit save that will load it up to the computer plus check the size of the picture. Never do anything bigger then 500 X 400 or bigger because it tends to load in most systems.

Hope that helped and happy posting.

Upon digging a bit more I found this. A State Department spokesman said the administration's decision was based on concerns that the guns could fall into the wrong hands. "The transfer of such a large number of weapons -- 87,310 M1 Garands and 770,160 M1 Carbines -- could potentially be exploited by individuals seeking firearms for illicit purposes," "We are working closely with our Korean allies and the U.S. Army in exploring alternative options to dispose of these firearms."

My opinion is that Obama, who is loath to be involved in any kind of confrontation, used the following as justification.

According to the ATF Guidebook on Firearms Importation, it would normally be legal to import the M1s because they are more than 50 years old, meaning they qualify as "curios or relics." But because the guns were given to South Korea by the U.S. government, they fall under a special category that requires permission from the State Department before any sale.

This then placates the likes of ‘The Brady Campaign Against Gun violence’, which gave Obama an "F" for "Failed Leadership, Lost Lives" during his first year in office. which is now praising the Obama administration for enacting what amounts to a de facto gun ban without directly assaulting (no pun intended) ownership or sales in the U.S. Which in turn lessens the chance of awakening the sleeping bear that is the NRA (of which I am a member).
Dennis Henigan of the Brady Campaign said."Guns that can take high-capacity magazines are a threat to public safety," "Even though they are old, these guns could deliver a great amount of firepower. So I think the Obama administration's concerns are well-taken." "They clearly were used as military guns, and the fact that they likely can take high-capacity magazines makes them a special safety concern,"

From the State Dept. "The transfer of such a large number of weapons -- 87,310 M1 Garands and 770,160 M1 Carbines -- could potentially be exploited by individuals seeking firearms for illicit purposes,"

In essence, this gives Obama a certain amount of political cover and reduces the confrontation I mentioned earlier. It is a weasely way of going about it and is a bunch of horse$hit through and through

limric, This is consistent with my understanding. Your post in the main forum had me wondering if I had unjustly believed that Obama was obstructing the importation of these rifles. I understand the pandering to the gun lobby and have heard the argument about the size of the transfer. He is just showing his true colors.

Have you read about Project Gunrunner?

Yes I have. The ATF's finest hour. Geesh!! It's funny in a sense, let firearms go into Mexico (shhh -to get the bad guys) - let Mexicans invade the US, but we need a national debate about high capacity mags and STOP re-introduction of American made rifles (with a CR classification). Better check for Bloomberg's boys at your next local gun show.

OH, isn't what the ATF did criminal? You know if you did what they did, you'd be in jail at this very moment.

The ATF is the loudest voice when it comes to claims that the Mexicans are getting all of their guns from the US. It would almost seem as if the ATF is encouraging gun sales into Mexico so they can support their unfounded claims.

I hear that the ATF could have legally conducted Project Gunrunner with Presidential approval. That is probably why the public at large is not hearing this story.

I totally disagree with your profile photo but it pretty hilarious considering it's so far from the truth. Thanks for the laugh.

Just remember. Mexico is a failed state. Any and all violence perpetrated by their hideous drug gangs...is OUR FAULT.

$HIT I'm tired of this BS.

You need to see this clip. It’s Dylan Ratigan raving. His rant is neither left or right. He may have lost his cool, but he’s EXACTLY RIGHT. This is could just as easily be me arguing with friends and co-workers. Maybe if enough people see this and think a little bit, we might beable to avoid the facism on the horizon.

You contradicted yourself! On the one hand, you complain about government colluding with big business but then you blame government. Do you really think government would collude with business if it weren't for K Street and the amount of money that lobbyists spend on political campaigns? Government doesn't collude with big business - big business owns our government. That is the system that Bennett's cartoons, like this morning, challenge. Coincidentally, that is the system that would be perpetuated, if not made worse, if any of the current slate of R candidates were elected.

MTJohn,

No contradiction what so ever! A legitimate role of government is to prevent banking and business from doing harm to citizens. Government has assumed the role of supporting and encouraging big business to engage in harmful behavior rather than deter it. Leftist seem to think government is the answer to everything and are unwilling to recognize government’s contribution to the problems that face us today. The problem is that when you allow government to collude with business it results in a great concentration of power, an uncontrollable concentration of power.

Big business can only be accused of “owning” government because government is willing to work with big business and establish market controls and rules that favor big business. Can you not see the naiveté of your position?

Both Democrats and Republicans are guilty in this regard. Don’t you wonder why you are still complaining about Wall Street after Dodd/Frank was supposed to fix everything? Where is the useful regulation? Where is the reform? Where is The Change you hoped for when you voted for Barack Obama (big assumption there, but your statements lead me to believe)? You have politicians who are trying to gain favor with special interests and selling favors at our expense. Where is your outrage? Why do you let government officials off the hook for taking the bribes and granting the favors?

The fleabaggers should be camped out in in Washington DC, the real source of the problem.

The fleabaggers have been camped out in Washington D.C. for a long time - they have taken up permanent residence on K Street!

What a nice thing to say! I'm not as evil as people make me out to be, and as an employee of a church and mother of a priest, I have a lot of respect for religion and religious beliefs. I appreciate your sense of humor and ability to see complex ideas for what they are!

Just to demonstrate how much of a coward I can be: I will be off line as far as the TFP is concerned for the next two months because my job (the last job I decided to keep) is 6AM-9PM 7 days a week, so I will be taking a long break from posting until mid July. To keep with the current trend: My name is Lisa Keith-Lucas. I live in Carrabelle FL, after living in Sewanee TN since 1978. My husband and I build a large steel hull trawler (the TFP did a story about it last year-search the last name). My email is lkeithlucas @gmail.com. I was a high school chemistry teacher for 28 years. Since there was a call to reveal identities, I thought I'd send it to you, since you and I represent different views. Hope that's okay. If anyone decides to arrange a gathering I would LOVE to come. :) Thanks for being the one really civil conservative I have encountered on this site.
