TDMAN - I think Childress will sleep just fine. The Tssaa assumes accuracy on the paperwork turned in by school officials. That is why they initially ruled McClendon was good to play last summer.

They depend on people reporting allegations of broken rules to launch investigations.

In this case - Bill Price has been around for a while - and in the process he has rubbed some people the wrong way. ON top of that - Signal Mtn exploded on the scene. And the beat downs were too much to take for some.

The rest is history.

chattanoogatazz - don't think South Pitt had anything to do with this. This was not about Tim McClendon - it was about a coach, maybe a few coaches that felt compelled to reel in Bill Price and his program up on Signal.

Note that the only issue found was a paperwork mistake.

Maybe winning programs come off as arrogant - and that is hard to stomach when you are on the receiving end of a beat down - but I think the TSSAA came off a little arrogant as well.

This was a hit job - IRS audit style - to get a Bill Price.

The fix was in.

I notice that whoever turned in Signal has not come forward and remains anonymous to this day. While many say that is not the point - I say put everything out there.

Congrats to East Hamilton on there win over RedBank. This new school is also receiving great community support - and fortunately for them - they were not successful right out of the box.

ChattVol06 - No need to drag the kids from Sequatchie County into this - they are as innocent as the Signal Mtn kids.

TSSAA is like the IRS - if they are ticked off at you - they will find something to justify their existence and their interpretation of rules.

This was a personal issue focussed at the Signal Mountain coach - and played out using the TSSAA to enact some revenge.

Again - for the folks up on Signal - the sun will come up tomorrow. Play hard and fair in your last game.

I wish a great game for both schools - and hope the coaches can shake hands at the end of the game.

Not a shocker - the fix was in. Certain people connected to the TSSAA were looking for anything they could to get at Bill Price. Tim McClendon just happened to be the vehicle to deliver the blow. As an earlier article stated - several Signal Mountain players were investigated - and the only error that was found in the investigation was related to one of Tim McClendon's forms – even though his correct address was on the form. Let’s be real HONEST – this was not about FAIR PLAY or ILLEGAL RECRUITING. This was never mentioned by TSSAA from what I can tell. This was about finding a way to get back at Coach Price and the Signal Mountain HS team for opening a serious and relentless can of whooop – and rubbing several small minded coaches, principles and parents the wrong way.
Note that TSSAA NEVER accused SMHS of illegal recruiting - it was about a form filled out incorrectly - yet the players actual living address was correct on the form.
As bitter as this may be for the folks up on Signal Mountain - the sun will come up tomorrow - and life goes on.

Just reminding Thereal423 and Idurham that it is HCDE that approves all hardships.

With that said - I have not witnessed any more arrogance out of Signal than other schools when they are on the top of their game like when Red Bank was great 10 years ago, or when McCallie was outstanding. Or the pride on the soccer field when my daughter played against Notre Dame, GPS, Baylor and Chatt Christian. Her team got seriously whipped - 10-0, 11-0, 8-0 - and there fans were very proud - some rubbed it in a little - but that's sports.

Funny - how a baseball team can get nailed big in a game - say 13-2 or your soccer team gets nailed - say 11-0 - and it is not an issue. These things happen. But if Signal beats a team 44-7 - everyone starts screaming that they are arrogant and guilty of piling on.

Poor losers!

Do not confuse supporting fans with arrogance.

As for the "fights" mentioned in earlier comments - I have seen the video of the Soddy / Signal fight. It was more about pushing and yelling - the teams were separated - then went back to playing. Both sides were involved - saw kids from both sides playing hard and pushing back.

Signal cancelled the rest of their 7 v 7 games.

The parent that hit the Soddy player - has been banned - he should have never been there to begin with.

Used to be Baylor and McCallie were the HATE schools.

Signal must be doing something right!!!!!

fan - good respone and get what you are saying.

However, I think there is a big difference in what you are alluding to regarding criminal activity versus making accusations about a high school football players eligibility because your team got a beat down or you do not like the coach at that school. This really seems petty to me.

I doubt Signal Mountain will win this appeal.

I think that the fix is in as the Coach up there has a lot of people wanting to bring him down a notch for whatever reason. And Tim McClendon is a way to do it.

I do not have a dog in this hunt - except that to me, all of Chattanooga loses when I see the pettiness being communicated.

I am taking Signal's side because it is obvious to me that there was no intent to deceive or cheat or recruit and also the fact that the TSSAA rules can be open to interpretation.

If there was an attempt to deceive or cheat - then I would say this coach needs to go - and Signal needs to void the wins.

I am amazed at all the finger pointing that has gone on at Signal Mountain. This great community fought hard to get a school for decades - and the community is very engaged to make sure this school is top notch. I am also proud to see a revival of sorts at Central - and seeing RedBank being competitive and the new MS being built there - and the New East Hamilton school and the incredible support this school is getting from the community.

It is obvious that whoever turned in Signal Mtn had an axe to grind - and was not turning in Signal to protect the community, the player, the program or was done in the name of fair play. It is a payback play - and the fix is in.

After reading the history behind this kid - and how all of this came about. And the fact that the TSSAA had opportunity to advise Signal at sporting events (girls State golf championship)and by simply picking up the phone to communicate that a complaint was filed on the eligibility of a player - yeah, this is not really about Tim McClendon or the program - it is about a personal situation with Coach Price.

Whatever - sad to see this playing out in the city I love so much.

James101 - according to the article in the paper. Chip Baker's kid did not punch the judges son. He pushed the kid after the kid yelled something ugly at him. Apparently - this in not the first time these two kids have not gotten along. These two kids probably need to stay away from each other - or figure out how to work out there differences.

I am sure he has a date in court - unless the parents have worked it out.

Not sure the relevency of your comment - unless this is yet another dig at the anything Signal Mtn.

They must be doing something right up there - with all this hate!

I think that Patty Lane's comments were guided to the rumors that Signal Mtn HS recruited players - when in fact - the players that make up almost the entire roster - live on Signal Mtn.

Some of these players originally went to private schools - but transferred to the public school when it opened - whiched saved their parents tens of thousands of dollars.

With the economy the way it is - and if I was in that situation up there - I would probably do the same. Unless my child was getting a tuition break to play at the private school.

It looks to me that this entire case is based on a technicality due to a form interpreation - and that someone has it in for Signal Mtn coach Bill Price and the football team up there.

It was earlier reported that "several" coaches turned Signal Mountain in. 1. Who turned in Signal Mountain? 2. Why did they turn Signal Mountain in? 3. Which school or schools would stand to gain something if SMHS was disqualified?

I smell a rat - and it is not from Signal Mtn. Interpretation of rules is one thing - but turning another team in and going into hiding is another.

Clearly - no intent to deceive by Signal Mtn has been proved.

Clearly - no recruiting has taken place.

The Signal Mtn coach apparently has a few enemies - by being successful too soon ..... and winning by large margins. As I have followed this story - I have totally switched my opinion from - Ha! Someone got caught - to HA! Someone is trying to bring down a coach, a program, a school, a community- because that person is a backstabbing petty little jealous weasel that has no NADS to stand up front and center.

Through all of this - no one has mentioned who turned in Signal Mtn and what the basis was for them to do so. Yep! I smell a rat!
