Good Lord, this country is becoming less and less free by the second! I am a former smoker, and don't mind ENCOURAGING people to quit. HOWEVER, it is still their right to choose! Please do not allow hospital employees to smoke anywhere that could be affect the patients or visitors. However, what they do on their own time, is their business, even if it causes them to pay a higher insurance premium!
I suspect that the comments so far are from people who are not parents. While I certainly hope & pray that the authorities have done a full, serious check of the mother, anyone who's tried to watch a 4 year old (much less one with a broken heart over a divorce), knows that they can vanish is a flash, and get 'wacco' ideas, usually overheard from unthinking adults. This is a sad, tough situation, and rather than assuming the mother is horrible, maybe people should understand what a tough situation she is in at the holidays!
