"Some of the biggest names on the block this week: Dallas defensive end Demarcus Ware"
I rarely pick up a DMN nowadays but if they start reporting some "inside local stuff", I'll be sure to clip and mail them. Right now the Mavs are taking up the most ink although with spring training (game-wise) beginning March 3rd, it won't be long until the all of North Texas will be getting the rust off of our claws and antlers (YUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!)
Regarding the Olympics, I would say this is probably the most I've watched since the Calgery games in 6th grade. I would imagine 6-7 hours combined (mostly sking and speed skating events; did come across US/Canada women's Curling via channel surfing but only watched 5-6 minutes of it).
My favorite team is in the news, but mainly in regards to the schedule for this year (which I'm sure we'll cover on Friday).
Well since MT has yet to post this morning I figured I'll go ahead and get the ball rolling on this: How 'bout that Mocs strength of schedule? O_O I recommend a steady diet of red meat, lifting no less then 500 lbs, and pushing pecan trees down (deep roots).
However, this quote is the one I am the most interested in:
"The excitement that I've already heard throughout the city about our game at UT is just unreal," Mocs coach Russ Huesman said. "There is a much greater interest and excitement in that game than any of our previous games against FBS teams like Alabama."
True that. However, here are some things I would like to address. In fact, we might want to save this for the mailbag on Friday. ;)
What would be the over-under for how much of the entire population of Chattanooga (approx. 500,000) will be wanting tickets and if so how many will actually be wearing blue and gold and rooting for the Mocs? The other question being how much of an effect will this schedule will have on the opportunity to move into the post season?
While I can't listen at work, I hope you have Russ on the show sometime this week regarding this. We got the players, that's no longer the issue. My issue is trying to keep them both healthy (I'm looking at you Keon and Jacob) AND hungry.
While I have no personal bias against Dianca, I just wish she would focus just a little more on her racing as suppose to doing T-n-A spots for GoDaddy.com.
Concur with the congressional baloney regarding the NFL. But unfortunately, there are two bigger problems: One, congressman or senator "X" is not going to tackle "real" issues so long as there is outside influence (PAC groups) as well as direct industrial and private lobbyiests. Two, we are a nation of FUDGING Idiots! We won't vote using simple logic, we vote based on our own "shallow" ideals then what is best for the country. I don't care if my representitive has gone to the same Baptist Church for 30 years or practices Shintoism, or is bi-sexual or happily married, loves cosplaying or NASCAR, etc. etc. Just do two things: Don't shove you personal beliefs in my face, and two, use both common sense and deductive reasoning when lobbying for a bill.
However, the millisecond a congressmen or senator tries to do something radical for the good of the country, some foam-in-the-mouth Tea Partier with some fringe PAC group backing him up is going to go into extreme Red Scare mode with scary stuff like "OBAMACARE" and "DETROIT" and "ELECT A DEMOCRAT AND KRATOS WILL KILL YOUR BABIES!" (Okay, that last part was a bit much you get the idea).
And the sad truth is WE ALL FALL FOR IT EVERY SINGLE TIME! How do you think Ted Cruz got in the Senate. Trust me, I watched the local spots here. There was nothing in there regarding common sense and deduction. u_u
Sorry everyone for the "Clay's Coloring Book" rant. But the Mocs are playing cupcakes and Ranger season is not for two months. Thanks for reading.
In regards to Michael Sam, him coming out is a moot point to be honest. He could have stayed silent his entire career and still no one would care. Unless he did something scandelous like "Sam Does Dallas" and showcases it at the you-know-what convention the media LOVES to clammer over every January in Las Vegas,(that's as clean as I'm putting it), again, a moot point.
Regrding the throwback game concept, I liked it with one exception: the girls were wearing modern uniforms. So I pulled up a random picture off the Internet of women's basketball uniforms from the 1940s (aka the sailor shirts and baggy shorts tied below the knees). Now THAT I would be a throwback game!
And yes, I wrote to the Athletic Department via Facebook and showed them the pic. Have yet to receive a response. I wonder why.
The "other", and more do-able concept, is to have both teams decked out in modern uniforms but with a "vomit-inducing" color sceme (I'm looking at YOU Pittsburg "Bumblebees").
I actually did watch some of the Olympics this weekend thank you very much (mostly the sking and X-games type events; fudge figure skating).
Jay, thanks for the response and the breakdown. You are definitely spot-on regarding the "regional powerhouse" concept. When I was skimming the list of new Bison recruits, one thing that caught my eye was how many of them had the following sentence: "Father played for ND State".
I always said these cats could give Alabama a run for their money in deep rooted fandom, and I still believe it.
For now, I'm in no rush for football to start back up. Two words: Rangers Ballpark YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I am looking forward to seeing the schedule for this year.
Chase- I'll see what I can do and you're welcome.
MT- I can't really do chat rooms at work (I'm "pushing it" with regards to being on the 5 & 10 but I've been here for so long I know how to keep stuff under the radar). But hopefully soon.
Jay: You're welcome. And I wasn't exaggerating either. I literally MEAN it. It's that sad. u_u
Chase: My "Gate" reference to T-Rob who in my eyes has now become the "Marcus Dupree" of the UTC program. So much talent, so much he could have done, to much baggage, to many "conspiracies" etc. etc.
It's not that big a deal. I just have this feeling that my program is put more under the microscope of criticism when a player does a boo-boo vs. a Tennessee or Alabama because UTC's not a multi-million dollar revenue machine. But that's the way it is so again hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
Aside from that, I'm interested to read the transcript of Russ' press conference or if I can view it when I get home that's even better.
MT- Word (in response to what you just posted about Penny).
"The meat-ologists deserve no special day. They've got our weather so screwed up, it's colder in JMC's neck of the woods than in Boston."
No kidding. If I can hear the wind blowing from my third floor walk-up and the Weather Channel says 31 in Grapevine (On 635 I'm 3-4 minutes from the town limit line between Irving and GV) and says "feels like 17" = No 5 AM jog for me. T_T Cook breakfest and put on Jeff Styles and friends via online streaming before Al Roker and Stephanie Abrams all but make my head hurt (And please don't get started on the local morning news programs here. Nutshell: Top 10 Media Market and they make "Good Morning Chattanooga" look like the BBC).
Not to sound Devil's Advocate or Lisa Simpson, but I tend to not draw an easy breath until I know what the rising crop is capable of. While I don't predict any of the new Mocs to become another Ryan Leaf, after T-Rob gate, the Allison-era, and lord knows what else, I'm in the camp of prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
But as far as my honest opinion goes, I would say the one new player I have the most vested interest in is Will Young. Given the number of FBS interest, I want to see if this guy has what it takes to be Jacob's new "go to" target (assuming he's not readshirted right off the bat).
As much as Signing Day will be excited locally, I'm more interested in what the schedule is going to look like for this upcoming year. I know Wofford and Furman are stepping up in the race to fill G-South and Appy-State's shoes. However, given the mix of newbies and our seasoned vets, there is no reason why we can Seattle all of our competition this year.
I do remember all the brew ha-ha over the SI Swimsuit issue but back then, that was it. Unless you wanted to go to Cinema One and NO ONE was that crazy. Today, we have the Internet which makes all that controversy ancient history. :P
Spy- What's your take on this Jamie Casino guy since he's in your neck of the woods? My cousin Lauren shared on Facebook that two minute Nick Cage wannabe spot he did that ran during the Super Bowl. Good Grief is all I can say.
The Titans aren't even close to SB status. They will be chewed up and spit out. Atlanta will at least give the NFC a good fighting.
Cold and drizzly here in Dallas. That is all.
