As much as I want to rah-rah for the home team, this isn't Mocs/GSU we're talking here. I do find the 12 noon start time a bit ridiculous as though people are going to come to the game and then drive for three hours to Tuscaloosa (news flash: no they won't). 7,000 is a conservative number but when we're talking a school that doesn't have a deep rooted traditional program AND has to compete with Bulldog, Yellowjacket and now GSU Eagle fans, the odds in favor of travel and staying overnight in the Scenic City to watch a lopsided victory are slim to none. Even when I went to see North Texas take on Southern Miss up in Denton, the Southern Miss section were 200-300 at best. And yet they came from behind to beat the Mean Green in the 4th. Normally I'm all about lobbying for the blue/gold but this being a predicted gimme and Tennessee/Alabama playing this weekend, it is a hard sell.
I will still be listening though.
Weird Al Rushmore: Eat it, Amish Paradise, Jurassic Park, Jerry Springer
I tried watching the last Mocs game on that SoCon Digital channel and it wouldn't load and broadcast. I trust it carrying the game about as far as I spit against North Texas winds. Maybe I need to email someone about this.
Met Christopher Lloyd back in May during Dallas Comic Con. Only person to date I ever paid for an autograph. Thought to myself "Does he really need my $60.00? Then I saw him in that movie where he's sitting on the john and these killer eels come up from the toilet and well, can't go further then that.
Very kind though. Had a awkward moment when I told him I loved "Modern Family". Turns out the "Christopher Lloyd" on the opening credits is not him but another person. So it goes.
MT, nice shoutout and it should also be pointed out Mocs are back in the 15/14 rankings 15 = sporting news, 14 = coaches poll. Even with a noon kickoff, I doubt Finley will have 7,000 tops. Also, I wonder if ESPN would consider airing the Mocs/Catamonts game Nov 1 on the Trey? Top two in the conference and ASN is not carrying it = chance to see it. I know they've made last minute scheduling decisions before.
Unless a cities hometown team is involved, I don't think anyone really cares for the WS as in the past. They're just not pulling the ratings as in the past which is why a lot of the playoff games were demoted to weird channels more or less.
Rushmore, App State of Michigan, Chattanooga over Tennessee, NDSU over Kansas State
"Oscar Pistorius received a five-year prison sentence. That is all."
I was watching the BBC news this morning because Dallas morning news shows make my head hurt (You're in a large market people! Quit acting like middle schoolers doing the morning announcements! T_T). They were acting as though it was the biggest sports-related news story since Ricegate on our side of the pond. And so it goes.
I just realized we're playing Mercer the same weekend as Tennessee/Alabama. Usually we're playing Western Carolina that weekend.
The thing I hate about Alabama being so good and Tennessee so bad is CBS an't carrying the game. ESPN or the Duece and I have 50/50 chance of getting the broadcast.
Don't be hopping on the Dallas Bandwagon yet. Yes, they are definiately on a roll and have flipped the script but last 2-3 years, I rarely tuned in to a Cowboys game. Now I haven't missed the last four. It's a good day to be in the 972 (Jerry's Death Star is actually in the 817-Terrent Co.) but its not habitual..not yet anyway. While its certain that 8-8 prediction has dropped by the waist side, there's still the whole one and done issue. 'Boys hadn't been to a playoff since my first year here in Dallas..that was seven years ago. And so it goes.
Spy, interesting observation. In the 17 years of following the Mocs I can't think of a time when Western wasn't a doormat. Maybe if Western did resurge, it would provide Moc fans an excuse to go to Culhollowee by the droves which is only three hours via the Ocoee route or four hours if you go up to Knoxville and swing a left on 40.
Honestly, it was one the SoCon away game I could go to that wasn't six hours+ That and Samford who wasn't even in the SoCon at the time.
We lost Kennesaw State because their athletic department is so gung-ho on making the move to the FBS the idea of going FCS and getting experience appears ludicous.
And so it goes as Ten Ring would say.
Agreed on VMI. Thankfully ETSU will be returning soon.
Mercer, VMI, Samford, Wofford, and Furman aren't exactly sexy names on anyone's football radar. But I have to pretend like the games matter even if the rest of the 423 does not. ):
I'll be honest, in the event the Mocs ever make the jump to FBS, I'm pulling for either Conference USA or anybody BUT the Sun Belt.
Maybe GSU needs to go to the ACC?
Is it me or for some reason you've all but dropped GSU coverage? I just check the schedule and apparently they're winning all their conference games. Just an observation.
I grant you sports will probably overshadow the passing of Luther which weighs more heavily then anything imaginable. While never a fan of his format, I did respect his loyality towards his roots. Apparently he had several offers during the course of his career to move to a bigger market(Chicago I imagined being the biggest offer) and turned them all down. But the reason I imagine his longivity being what is was goes back to the old saying:
Get paid what you love doing and you never have to work a day in your life ever again.
Back to sports: Not a fan of Payton either (more of the "fan ideology" then the person) but respect his stats.
I listened to the UTC game and apparently the execution was spot-on. However, this isn't exactly Georgia Southern we're talking here. Right now, the Mocs are playing the equvelency of Kentucky and Vanderbilt in the SoCon. When we play Western Carolina and Wofford, then we'll talk.
On a sidenote, I wonder what the over-under in attendence will be this Saturday for a no-name team that's a bigger doormat then VMI?
Shout out to my friend Greg Vital here in the Big D for treating me to North Texas vs. Southern Miss this past Saturday. This was only my second attendance of a Mean Green game and dispite how the team performs on the field, the fans don't sound like people who barely got out of the 6th grade (when compared to another fanbase).
Shaq also promotes products from Gold Bond. However, that's 100% justifiable as the gentle giant owns a majority share in the company.
My all time favorite to this say is that god-awful local spot The Fridge did for BBQ sauce (you can probably find it on Youtube). Makes the local spots for Ray Lo's Catch-a-Mello sauce look like a Lexus commerical.
Here in Dallas, Nolan Ryan does a TON of local spots. The two big ones being one for home foundation repair (which is common problem here due to all the red clay top soil), the other being for his meat selection at the local Krogers. Jason Witten also does spots for Albertson's which still thrives down here.
Thanks to ASN, I'm no longer able to watch the Mocs online (thanks a lot athletic department!) so I might skip the match-up against El Cid (shocking, I know). But I have a lot of stuff this weekend that has been put off for weeks that need to be handled.
Jomo- none of what you overheard surprised me. The attendees at most home games at Neyland stadium are so dense they are an embarrassment to people who actually went to the school. To them it is simply UT and not UT. Ron White said it best: You can't fix stupid. I'll root for the big orange if there is no conflict of schedule but in reality, it is 100,000 drunk toothless rednecks and this girl I won't mention who at one time all the local media triped over themselves for her for a lot of BS reasons. In short, they don't really need my support.
On that note, I got to watch the game at Kelly's Eastside in Plano (local A&M bar-restaurant that serves some good bar food). Since the A&M game was on at 8:00 PM I basically had the whole place to myself. Got to see some great tackles by Davis Tull and Dee Virgin. I just hate the fact all last week it seems no one follows the Mocs except when they're playing the Vols. u_u I plan on writing an open letter on a third party site to address this.
Back to the Cowboys, yeah I watched that game too. :) Ever since that ill-fated loss in Seattle back in 2006, fans of Jerry's Death Star have been looking for redemption. Well they found it.
