"As for the Braves, why not. Looking forward to a Braves game where you don't get panhandled on the walk back to the car."
Ahhh..fond memories of 2007-2008 (My first year in Dallas when I took a PT job as a concession runner for the American Airlines Center [where the Mavs/Stars play]). I learned every single trick on how to spot panhandlers at 20 yards as well as how to avoid them while waiting at West End station if I was taking the rail line home.
The fact the Packers cut Coleman because they simply thought Rodgers and their supposed golden boy back-up QB was industructable is karma in the nth degree. I am sooo doing the "Mother" laugh on this.
Calling the Braves the Smyrna Braves is as stupid as calling the Dallas Cowboys the Arlington Cowboys. This is not open for discussion.
Regardless of over-under, I have no problem shaming my hometown. Shame. SHAAAMMMMMMEEEEEEE! A little over 12,000? Folks, we're not in a conference where we get to host LSU, North Texas, or North Dakota State. But at the same time, we're not Division III either. I grant you I can't thank the paper enough for their front-page coverage both Saturday and Sunday but that game truly proved my hometown is not a true sports town. Regardless, I know it hasn't effected the team's mojo and as long as they maintain the course, Samford should be the landscaping of an otherwise awesome season in the books.
One question though that was not brought up is what is the ranking going to be on Tuesday? I imagine it to be 18 but that's probably too generous.
I'm more an animation guru then comics but to "outsiders" not named Seth Green no one knows the difference just the same as a comic geek doesn't know the difference between Alabama and Auburn (yes, I said it). I don't participate in things like "If you have a superpower what if.." because as the Reverend Jessie Jackson would say "The Question is Moot".
And if you ask who gets the car? I get the car.
I could also go into your somewhat misinterpretation of Scooge McDuck the same way a reinactor for the Confederacy will bore you to tears with yaking to death about the cows, the chickens, and the hogs, on the misinterpretation of the Confederacy, but I'm totally "geek free" for this weekend. Simply because I am at the point of "If I read one more $&^%$-ing Facebook post from my anime friends regarding Anime Blast, Eyeshine (The Johnny Young Bosh band), or friends on staff who feel the need to post every five &*^%$-ing minutes how their spazzing out and can't get anything done (yeah, because you keep POSTING instead of doing anything), I'm gonna (fill in the blank - followed by a mushroom cloud)"
Eyeshine is NOT the Stones
Anime Blast Chattanooga is not San Diego Comic Con
There are going to be hiccups, but it's not the be-all, end-all of anything.
So yeah, ready for Frost's Femme Fatales tonight via streaming video and the true BIG game on the Trey tomorrow afternoon. Bring it! I'm even calling SportTalk again for one more "pep-call".
I see your point but at the same time, it's not the same. Unlike Sherman and Allison who left their replacements with something resembling the Bad News Bears half buried in the city dump, Jim was left with a group of gals with wins against Tennessee, Alabama, and several other big school programs. Any adjustment, at best has to be small and seamless. I grant you the "soft opening" against our UTC wannabe neighbors up the road was a very, very, ugly display but hopefully the chemistry will re-adjust for tomorrow night.
Glad I was able to offer you the laugh of the day.
Wow, lots to rebuttal on.
Let's start from the top and move on down.
I guess because we talk about the Mocs on and off in the comments it pretty much evens out given the apparent SEC/FBS overkill on some of this week's 5&10s. That's not to say I'm not curious at some of the regional contests, but given the "all or nothing" vibe this Saturday against Wofford, there would be more talk then usual. Don't get me wrong, Weeds did some great columns this week but the war drum needs to be loud and proud.
At this point, there's nothing left to cover in Tusculoosa. Alabama just needs to play two games for however long Saban is head coach: Oregon and the National Championship. Everything else just looks like Alabama vs. East Hamilton High School.
Back to the Mocs. I know the 5&10 comments site is an unofficial boys club even though we don't discriminate but the fact everyone is focused on Coach Wade and CHAOS is anything short of three stacks of sexist baloney. We won't get a real test until they play someone of stature like Kennesaw State. Meanwhile, dispite the unusual hiccups going up against Jesus U. in East Bradley County, Frost's Femme Fatale's will be playing the bad girls of Tusculoosa this Friday at the Roundhouse. They beat them last year down there and I'd love to see a repeat.
Support our Ladies gents. ;)
Sidenote: I quite following country music a long time ago for three reasons: 1) The fact that US101 literally believes they and they alone are the center of the country music universe. Talk Radio 102.3 should be at the top of the Aubertrons and not at the bargin basement like they always report in Engima. 2) the vanilla factor. 3) Taylor Swift [stop whining you can't get a man. Remember, there's always Jonathan M. Cook. 4) The lyrics. These people don't know real pain. 5) Anybody whose affiliated with real country music are either dead, running around nakked in Sherman, Texas OR demoted to the Jukebox Junction at Lake Winnie.
Forgot about that. Hadn't been to a late season game in a long time.
I'm not as concerned with special teams as I am the fact there is the huge question mark involving Keon and now Gunner. I know Marques has stepped up tremendously but in order to beat Wofford we're probably going to need someone as big as Keon who can move the pile. Marques is my height and sized up with the other players is one of the shortest (but no doubt strongest) on the team. T-Rob needs to be able to get super-open otherwise it's going to be another slobberknocker like last week.
Saturday is predicted to be mostly sunny with clouds at a high of 64. Definitely football weather. Given the numerous flatscreen set-ups at the pavilion and a noon kick-off, anyone wanting to watch Tennessee/Auburn before the Mocs game can easily do so. No excuses people for not showing up!
Charlie Brown Christmas is still a classic even though it's dated by today's standards. If the Peanuts gang were in 2013, the scene where the kids rip on him regarding the tree would be classified as bullying, CB may or may not shoot someone before turning the gun on himself and there may or may not be numerous talking head shows milking this on CNNMSNBCFOX.
And then there's Facebook.
One we talked about last year and I'm glad 5&10 is passing the tradition on to the next generation is Emmett Otter's Judgeband Christmas.
"MocTastic, that Jomo11 line about the SunBelt being the witness protection program of FBS is my line. Used last week. JMC liked it, too."
That I did. In fact, when I changed out of my blue and gold and into my orange and white to watch the Mizzou game in the den/living room/guest room/library (I live in a one bed-room), I did what Spy stated and checked the scorebar since the game was on ESPN. I saw Chattanooga/Appy State and other SoCon games + other FCS schools scroll across numerous times. Sunbelt schools, not so much.
And yes, Statesboro is not going to turn into Tuscaloosa overnight nor are there any major player alumni (not counting whats-his-face who plays for the Dallas Cowboys; yes, I should know this but I don't at the moment).
Jay Blackman's office phone number (pulled from GoMocs.com's directory) is 423-425-5292. Just leave a message and share your idea.
Agreed that Appy is definiately not the Appy of the Jerry-era. But I'll still consider it a hard fought win on the account it's almost anybody's ballgame. (The fact Citadel beat Samford kinda gives that vibe).
I officially clock out of work at 3:00 PM Dallas time which is 4:00 PM Chat-town time. I live approximately 10 minutes from work but with afternoon traffic, it's an easy 15-20 minutes to the apartment. That said, I would say tune in between 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM Chat-town time. I won't be using any "handles" so if Quake says "Jonathan, calling from Dallas, what's up bro?" and you hear a light, twangy voice, that will be me. ^^()
Want to give a nice "type-out" to Jay Blackman, the Sports Marketing Director at UTC, I didn't leave a return number but apparently he pulled it up out of their system. He called me back saying how appreciative he was of the message and apparently has started to get the ball rolling regarding trying to fill Finley. I'm not even a high-end alumni and he still took the time to call back. Classy!
