The problem is social and family breakdown that nurtures a culture of nililism and violence. The solution, though exceedingly more difficult than blaming abstract, impersonal forces like "gentrification" (WTF!) is manifest: take individual and collective responsibility. Teach and nurture your kids. Read to them and teach them to love learning. Instill respect, an ethic of hard work and personal responsibility, and a conscience. Learning starts in the home. Delay childbirth until you have the resources to raise your children. Men, stand up and be men! Run these thugs out of your own community, and then start over. Let these cowards who run in packs and rely on fear know that the 'gansta' culture is as unwelcome in your community as it is in successful, coherent communities who value family, learning, and respect, like the Indian, Vietnamese, and Chinese. Don't complain that the police won't help the black community until you do everything in your power to cooperate with the police and help yourselves. Start snitching, and keep snitching, until these fools who prey on the community are excised from the community. This bullsh@# does not go on in other communities, no matter how poor and oppressed, because it violates community standards and is unacceptable within the community. Raise those standards within the black community, and the problem of violence and nihilism will gradually abate. This course is admittedly not easy. It is certainly harder than blaming the police and 'the Man.' But I suspect that we all know in our hearts that it is the only real way.
