As I continue to read the posts on this topic would like to thank those few who have extended what seems to be a genuine welcome. Most of the posts [here] have given me reason to pause and seriously evaluate another job offer from a firm in Austin, Texas. Austin is substantially more family-friendly oriented and certainly less combative (even in their community threads/posts on a variety of topics). Clearly their school system is leaps and bounds above Hamilton county with more favorable stats. As a widow with two children it's my responsibility to see that my children are educated in a civil/caring academic setting, with other like students. I simply don't feel that would be possible in the Chattanooga area. The hostility, rage and racial polarization that many have concerns me. I happen to multi-racial. By no means should any of you consider me judgmental because nothing is further from the truth. You simply are who you are. I also paid full tuition for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees by working and receiving some scholarship monies (not any aid) toward tuition costs. In closing I add that my research was certainly not limited to this single topic. I have read for hours about the Choo-Choo city. Wishing all of you the best, it's clear my family will not fit in with your agendas. Bless all of you!

Was recently offered a 6-figure paying position with a well known company in Chattanooga. What I am doing is researching the area in an effort to determine if my family will find the move both a favorable and easy adjustment. Thus far I am impressed with all the area offers however what is going on with politics and the school board in Chattanooga/Hamilton County? I read that the female member who walked out of the meeting cuts hair for a living and has a GED certification. I wonder if the local voters are aware of this. Surely a member of the school board should have a 4-year degree at the very least. And what's the deal with so many wanting to impeach the present mayor? Is he that inept and/or corrupt? Can some of you enlighten me before I choose to relocate? Was under the impression that Chattanooga has some problems as most medium size cities do, but am seriously having second thoughts, since those in control seem so out of control. I have two elementary aged children and simply want them to continue to receive an excellent education, while feeling safe in their academic settings. Perhaps they would be better served at a private school. Thanks so much folks.
