You're exactly right about that last sentence. He needs to start attending the meetings. The meeting was not intended to be a bashing of the police, and as someone that was in attendence, that's not what it was. What you all saw on the news and what happened at the meeting are two completely different things.
Have you ever thought about WHY the NAACP doesn't speak up when whites are shot by police??
Because WHITE PEOPLE don't reach out to the NAACP. If they'd use their resources...they'd be served with the same care and respect as those who chose to reach out.
And...what was the point of posting Heyward's criminal record...does that mean he deserved to die the way he did?
Will you all please open your eyes and see this situation for what it is. It's a classic and horrifically tragic case of overkill by the police. If Heyward pointed the gun at them, fine. It makes sense that the police would have responded to a threat and made an effort for subdue him...but FORTY THREE WOUNDS??? FIFTY NINE ROUNDS??? A 15 year old boy shot in the back??? That's out of line and that's the problem that needs to be dealt with.
Let's not make the mistake of making this a racial issue just because the NAACP is involved in the matter. The organization is designed to fight for equal justice for ALL people...not just black and brown people.
God forbid one of your family members get shot and killed by the police...I doubt that either of you would be able to deal with it by simply saying "I know my mother/cousin/uncle/son/etc had a problem...it's too bad he had to die by the hands of the police department."
Let's face it...there's a problem and we all need to come together (regardless of race) to find some kind of solution to protect both the people of this community as well as the officers hired and trained to serve and protect.
I agree moonpie...I don't think we've heard the last of him at all. I hope he truly learns something from all of this though, he ought to be tired of getting in trouble.
I don't think it's a conspiracy at all...you do dirt...you're gonna get dirty. He'll be alright. No need for Jessed Jackson, Al Sharpton or the tiny violins.
