Mitt Romney lives "rent free" in Clay Bennett's head.
and i half expected a signal mountain eagle sticker on the sign.
Willi Munzenberg would be so proud of you, Clay.
since mr. gossett mentioned the 7 on 7 soddy/signal mountain fight i thought i'd mention the REST of the story. this also is brought up by posters from time to time as well. signal mountain took a black eye on this for good reason. i wasn't at the fight that broke out, but my son was on the field at the time and he told me his account. on the other hand, i was at the fight that broke out last May. MAY?! yes, May. signal and soddy scrimmaged last spring and this was NEVER reported. soddy started not ONE, but TWO fights that i personally witnessed. the first was a bench clearing fight with the soddy bench being the only bench clearing and the signal coaches being the only coaches assisting the officials in breaking up the fight. the second was near the end of the scrimmage when a soddy player intentionally punched a signal player in front of a referee. the soddy player never breaking stride turned toward his team’s bench where he promptly removed his helmet and pads knowing he would be ejected and he was. i've played and coached this game and this scrimmage is one of the top 5 dirtiest i've seen by one team. i only wonder if the 7 on 7 fight was a result from the spring scrimmage.
back to the subject. it's my opinion that one kid is worth more than 6 wins. the signal mountain football team and student body have rallied behind tim and i do too. most of us know the decision that's coming and stand with tim. when the decision's made and all the haters spew their glee here tomorrow, one thing will never change, tim will remain a student at signal mountain and the tssaa can't kick him out of our school......HIS school. he's one of the nicest young men i've met.
tnvolssuckbad and idurham - signal mountain middle/high school accepted approximately 110 students out of the signal mountain zone last year. based on last years enrolement (approx 1100), this amount is about 10%. i know this because of a conversation i had with the administration after paying $180 school fee and wondered why my kid was without a science book for two weeks. it was due to the influx of new kids that wasn't anticipated. i was told 33 of these kids were from howard and 11 from east ridge. the other 60 plus kids come for various reasons. so signal takes their fair share of underprivileged kids.
as a parent of smmhs students, one of which being on the football team; dispite the consequences the tssaa hands down, i'm still glad tim is a student on the mountain and a member of the football team. he's such a great kid and i'm happy my kids rub shoulders with an outstanding young man daily. based on the reaction of the fans last night, i doubt i'm in the minority.
