Your AFC West prediction is terrible! The Faiders are the LEAST likely team in that division to the win the west. And God spare me from all these Peyton worshipers suddenly becoming Donkeys fans.

Here's my theory on why the comments have gone away. The TFP often reports on the doings of prominent citizens of Chattanooga. The information in the stories is controlled by the TFP, while the comments under the stories are not. Many of the comments under the story are directed at the prominent citizens and many of the comments claim this or that "fact" about the prominent citizens that is totally untrue. I think the threat of a lawsuit from a well resourced prominent citizen and his high dollar attorney are the reason the comments are now limited to opinion pieces instead of news stories. Just my 2 cents.

I didn't read this article as an assault on the nuclear industry. The article clearly states that the amounts in the monitoring well were not much above the threshold for safety and that further monitoring would take place. It's all very reasonable and non-alarmist. It appeared to me to be a factual account of TVA's report.

Would those of you bashing this article be happier if the newspaper never reported on any TVA nuclear safety concerns? I'd certainly rather be informed about a small abnormality than not get any information until there was a meltdown.

I am strongly opposed to illegal immigration, but is no one concerned that these checkpoints violate our constitutional 4th amendment rights? The government is stopping citizens, asking for their "papers" and poking around in their personal property (cars). This doesn't bother anyone? DUI sobriety checkpoints only narrowly made it through the supreme court because according to the majority "they only violate your constitutional rights a little bit" and the trade off of stopping drunk drivers is worth it, supposedly, in terms of saving lives. Now we have checkpoints that don't even pretend to be DUI checkpoints. This government intrusion is pernicious and people need to speak out.

The solution to illegal immigration is not trampling US citizen's constitutional rights. The solution lies in cracking down on companies who are hiring illegals. If they can't get jobs in the US, they won't come here - right?

Everybody's entitled to their opinions, but making comments about a 17 year old girl's appearance is absolutely pathetic, TypicalRedneck.

I don't see anything support your assertion that only mid-to-upper classes are reducing their birth rates, Rolando.

The only thing I see that could make you think that is the stat of overall children per woman being 1.9 and Hispanic (Catholic) women being 2.4. What you're not thinking about is the overall drop from 2.0 to 1.9 is about a 10% reduction while the Hispanic drop of 3.0 to 2.4 is about a 25% reduction.

Your post as a whole seems to exude some sort of fear that good old red blooded Americans are in danger of being "outbred" by Latinos. I'm not sure what traditional US culture you're referring to as being in danger as America is the great "melting pot", right? Every wave of immigrants who came ashore on Ellis Island had a hand in shaping our culture. For God's sake, some of your "euro-based" chosen people brought the Polka over here and we wound up with Lawrence Welk on our television screens. I can't imagine anything worse than that - ha!

Dear Fiberopguy - maybe you could share your personal experiences in adopting American children with us so we can better understand what it was this family did incorrectly for you to question their generosity.

PayingAttention - The whole situation looks suspicious, but you can't fault him for moving. He lost his job that was paying him something like $170,000 per year. I don't think those jobs are commonplace in Chattanooga, TN. No job and a giant house on Signal - he has to sell his house and move, right?

dao1980 - I can see your point of view and where you're coming from. Some of the comments (like yours) were intended to be funny and some were intended to be mean spirited (and racist). However, I don't think it is using very good judgment to make fun of a child who was shot. If you and your family were involved in a tragedy that ended with the death of a friend and wounding of a family member, I don't think you would want to come to this site and see a bunch of jokes and mean spirited comments at your family's expense.

I'm on board with your sentiments that it is okay to find some humor in situations where stupid people do stupid things. Making fun of a child who has been shot is over the line, however.
