The strength of a democracy is found in an educated citizenry that expects the best of its leadership and is willing to challenge dangerous decisions that clearly do not have a basis in defensible fact. "Meritless war", as mentioned in an early post, is not the sole province of either of our political parties. Both can stake claim to having engaged in wars that were not in the best interest of the American people or the country. From the "domino theory" to "weapons of mass destruction", Americans should by now understand that preventative warfare does not protect our country. Indeed, it places us at great risk by undermining our democratic principles not to mention our economic basis.
The "insulated elite" of both parties displayed incredible arrogance over the last 45 years. I will hope for better in the future.
