The same thing happened to my 79 year old grandmother. She walked into the hospital with abnominal pain and was admitted and scheduled for an colonoscopy and endoscopy by a prominent doctor in chattanooga. He had complications during the procedure and said that he was unable to get the information he needed. A few hours later the family was called in and was told that my grandma had took a turn for the worse and wasn't going to make it. Her small intestines was perforated during the procedure causing leakage into the stomach. We were told that she had a gastric ulcer but know that the doctors done a good job covering for one another. She was placed in intensive care after the procedure because we were told they didn't have a room available anywhere else. I strongly believe that the doctor had her place there because he also knew that he had perforated her small intestine. We all make mistakes in life but it takes a special person to admit to his mistakes.
She is now living in a nursing home with 24 hour care due to a 3rd degree bed sore that she left the hospital with and a peg tube because she can no longer swallow. Terrible circumstances for a lady that had been living on her own and caring for herself until this simple procedure changed her life forever. I feel for Ms freeman and her family.
