I am happy to know that ML King Boulevard is receiving such a wave of attention. It is a wonderful corridor within the City of Chattanooga and could easily enhance the richness of the city as a whole. Its history and presence are unique, and with the correct components, it certainly could exceed the popularity and amenity of the past. To achieve this though, actions and policies which act to Concentrated Poverty such as in the Homeless Plan will make it harder for this struggling corridor to revive.
Please do not misunderstand me, I completely support assisting the poor! They are US and are in need of the best assistance that we can provide, but concentrating and separating them will not help them gain economic, educational, and social mobility. Some of the only ways to do this are through mixed (Affordable For Them) neighborhood rental and market-rate housing choices throughout the city, mixed income neighborhoods, multi-modal transit options, and GREAT paying jobs!
I know for many this is allot to swallow, but when you look at the world's best cities, much of what I have listed you will find incorporated within them.
Best Regards, Your New Resident,
