It's an economic debacle most politicians just don't get. Higher taxes do NOT equal more revenue. Crafty attorneys, tax consultants and moving companies know exactly how to get around them.

I don't know anyone who thinks there should be zero taxes. I know many who think taxes should be fair, equal and well represented by those in power. This remains the big rub in America and elsewhere.

As in any household budget, the answer lies not in raising taxes, but in reducing spending. Unfortunately, so many of our elected officials are addicted to spending our money for their own reelection hopes rather than for the common good.

This is really scary! Not government irresponsibility, that has been becoming increasingly worse throughout my lifetime. What scares me most are people who just don't get it and have access to a method of expressing the fact that they don't get it. By the constitution, the government is to protect us not provide for us. War is an ugly reality of living in a world where not everyone plays nice. Cars are the benefit of living in a protected society, a luxury so people can get together and play nice.

As a new resident and a Civil War enthusiast, I appreciate the reminder. I believe it's important for us to revisit and remember the hard lessons of history that have made us who we are. The preservation of such awe inspiring sites provides us the opportunity to stand where others have hammered out differences while paying a supreme price that we might live in this time. We owe it to those who lived and died on these hallowed grounds to never forget. Thanks for the reminder.

Once again, thanks for reinforcing my point. Liberals resort to name calling and illogical and fictional statements when they can't win the argument. Get a job and join this quickly vanishing group of people known as American taxpayers. It has a way of changing your perspective on free lunches to bums who can but won't work. And that's not name calling. Get a dictionary.

You lib's crack me up. You have all the answers but none of the solutions. This country was founded by people with a strong work ethic, Christian faith and morals. That does not imply they were perfect. But they cared and worked hard for what they had. Your bleeding heart is what is destroying this country. When we give people everything they lose self respect. There is a reward that comes with a working for something beyond a check. Take your socialistic thinking somewhere else. We're doing just fine with compassionate capitalism thank you very much!

Looks like the Lib's are out in force today. Fortunately, no one takes there fact checks serious anyway. Why would giving more people foodstamps be a problem? We allow millions of illegal aliens to be here and then declare the problem is too big and the system is broken (since when?). Our moral compass is what is broken! What part of illegal don't you understand?

I am all about helping those in need. I am not about enabling those who refuse to work or making people dependent o handouts for the sake of reelection hopes. I also do not support changing a process that has worked for millions coming through the front door because a few liberals cry foul to satisfy their own agenda. It's time for Change if we have any Hope for this country! Way to go Jeff.

The allowance of civil unions flies in the face of the foundations of this great country, the Bible( sorry, I know that's politically incorrect) and the opinions of the overwhelming majority of the NAACP members. Leaders have a wishbone instead of a backbone when it comes to political correctness.

Yes, you are entitled to your opinion. Express it with great passion and sound reason. But, at the end of the day, the majority rules even if you disagree. That the majority still posses Judeo-Christian morals do not make us intollerant or bigots. It indicates we have a different opinion based o different morals and principles than you. We don't hate you, but we disagree with your minority opinion. It is because of our tollerance that we support your right to express your opinion. We do not believe, you should force us to accept your moral code, however. Your rights end where my nose begins.

Opperative word is "Sometimes". Excuse me for being one to refuse the kook aid. If you do what you'he always done, you'll get what you've always got. You don't get out of a hole by digging deeper. Enough metaphors. We need adults at the wheel to turn this country around. I have a daughter who is 24 and I fear what we are handing her! I am embarrassed every time I think about it. How did we get here? Read your history. Much blood has been shed and sacrifices made so that we could be the greatest country in the world, not the highest debt or give away programs. I for one have had enough hope and change. I'm now hoping FOR change. If not, I fear we won't recognize this great country in 4 more years.
