Whoever is elected, needs to pattern themselves in temperament to the late Mayor Ronnie Cobb. We do not want Fort Oglethorpe to become a battlefield (no pun intended) for politicians who do not show respect for the other officials, city employees and the public.
Parents, grandparents and those who care should guard their prescription drugs as though they are deadly, which the statistics show they can be. We need to wake up and take care of our kids and others. This is sad commentary on our modern society. More time needs to be spent talking to our younger generation about the dangers of prescription drugs -- and other drugs as well. Wake up, folks!
I agree with Tommy Iles, it is a little off base to let the kids off without a blink of the eye regarding invasion of the cemetery after dark; yet holding the person who was trying to guard it responsible as though he were the perpetrator. It is just wrong and very sad.
We need to start somewhere --the tunnel is as good as any. I feel people who are trying to improve our city visually should not be ridiculed and put down. The money will go for something, anyway. If safety can be assured, start ASAP.
VW is a business and they might be expected to do what is best for the company; however, this should give pause to those who would give away the city to lure an industry that really has no particularly loyal attachment to the area.

I do appreciate Mr. Bell's instruction on the proper display of our American flag. My late husband was a veteran who served this country. He expressed disappointment when seeing our honored flag displayed inappropriately. One of the most disturbing trends is the tendency by car dealers and retail establishments to display multiple smaller flags for very obvious advertising and business promotional purposes. Our young people should be taught respect for the symbolism of our country's banner and instructions on its display. Thank you Mr. Bell for your thoughtful letter, reminding us about this issue.
