I researched and wrote "OUT OF CONTROL--ON PURPOSE: DOE's Dispersal of Radioactive Waste into Landfills & Consumer Products" www.nirs.org/radwaste/outofcontrol/ou...
Please let me know of any errors in the report so i can correct them. There is one INCOMPLETE fact in the report--i only listed one of the several programs TN Dept of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has to allow nuclear power and weapons waste to go to solid waste landfills in TN. I learned later that in addition to BSFR Bulk Survey for Release, TDEC has other ways to let companies release nuclear waste into regular garbage dumps in TN: VCD Volumetric Clearance for Disposal and BWAP Bulk Waste Assay Program. TDEC licenses PROCESSORS to burn, pyroprocess, chop, melt, mash, acid-etch, grit-blast and deregulate or "clear" nuclear waste from controls. The processors, like EnergySolutions want to bring more waste in from further away --for example from ITALY; Studsviks want to store waste longer and get licenses to do more processes:IMPACT wants to open the 6th or 7th radioactive incinerator/heat treatment facility in TN and brags about how much nuclear waste it "clears" into regular trash. TN is the destination for nuclear power and weapons wastes from the US and soon to be from around the world.
This is different than REPROCESSING which is proposed to be done to irradiated nuclear fuel to separate plutonium out of it. Past reprocessing messes remain threatening the water supplies in NY, Idaho, South Carolina and Washington.
