The University of Tennessee Board of Trustees' time would be better spent working on the selection of a worthy president of the university. They have failed miserably in their selections since Dr. Joseph Johnson held the post. In the past 50 years, a candidate was being groomed in-house for the position - ex: Dr. Holt, Dr. Boling, Dr. Johnson - with the exception of Senator Lamar Alexander. Those men were successful. The Board of Trustees needs to be more serious about the search for the new president of the university than the search for a football coach or an honorary degree recipient if they wish The University of Tennessee to be a first class public university.
I am very surprised the university would cut the vice presidents of science & technology and information technology, and yet retain vice presidents of public relations and diversity. The university seems to be throwing in the towel for competing in this technology driven era. As an out of state alumna, I feel this retreat from emphasis on the importance of technology is a disservice to current students.
