i lived in Chattanooga for a year last year, and i loved it. but a huge part of what drove me away is the bigotry. yes, i saw that a lot of the crimes that were committed downtown were committed by black people. do you realize how much that has to do with how big of a population of african-americans you have in Chattanooga? I live in Utah now, and there are hardly any black people. So there is hardly any black crime. But no matter where you live, there is a minority that gets the brunt of peoples' aggression. i'm white. i DON'T have insurance. i work in a restaurant. does that mean i'm a "hood dweller"? a parasite sucking your resources and hard-earned money dry? no. i take care of myself. as many black people do. and as many white people DON'T. Chattanooga is not going down the drain because of black people. it is going down the drain because of neglect, denial, and recession.
