I'm not going to comment on specific situations, and admit I haven't read all the comments, however; as to the "stepping stone to a better situation" issue, if you happen to be the only person caring for an elderly family member, you can't work. I know everyone's situation is different, but there are certain scenarios where sadly people don't have another option. I wish it were easy. I wish everyone could be in an ideal situation, but it's not possible. Nearly everyone has had help at one time or another, if not from the government possibly a friend or family member. I just wish that people would realize they don't know all the details about a situation before they speak as if they do. Use common sense, and have some compassion. You never know when your situation may change, and the people you criticize now, may be the ones to help you later.
