Small business just seems to end up between a rock and a hard place when it comes to our power bills.
To conserve energy and cut back on high energy bills we do everything we can from programmable thermostats, fluorescent lighting, higher thermostat settings, etc.
We are successful in reducing our kw consumption. Unfortunately, we are constantly hit with "fuel recovery" charges, "demand" charges and price increases that make it very difficult to reduce costs.
We have done all that we can to reduce our consumption but our bills are higher than ever. We are told that it is because of the drought, natural gas prices, and other various reasons. (We all know that the cost of cleaning up the ash spill will be passed on to us as well.)
So, now, because we have done such a good job reducing our energy consumption, we have contributed to "the decrease in power sales" and as a result, we can expect "another base rate increase in TVA power rates by this fall, officials said."
What a Catch 22! And with no other source for electricity, we are truly between a rock and a hard place!
