Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. The website changes caused a lot of problems posting from my iPad (that's what I get for using the 'Fisher-Price' version of a computer!), but I finally figured out how to get around those on my own. The avatar was beyond my abilities, though. I finally took it to my son (in college) and had him figure it out. It still needs to be re-sized so that the top of his poor little yellow head isn't cut off!

Most of my colleagues were liberal, but they did not care because they did not pay any attention to politics. I could never reach that point, I got outraged on a daily basis. I could not get how students in Math, Physics and even Biology sticked to their Adam and Eve - myth.
Indeed the Northeast and the West Coast give some balance. It was so refreshing to visit Cambridge or California from time to time. However, the South plus Texas have to much of a saying as that one could ignore it. One of my colleagues always said Lincoln made a big mistake... he should have let them secede. The south would be third world country with Bible-colleges only.
In fact maybe it is already a third world country.
I think the religious right is one of the major problems, however, the main problem is FOX NEWS,
they are able to manipulate big time. Thats why I dont see any real future for the US.
The only solution would be targeted Pakistan-type drone-strikes,
on Baptist-churches, on 10 am sunday morning... (-: (just dreaming)
I enjoyed the "little chat" that you, Austrian_in_Alabama, and I had about religion. I have never been able to have a productive exchange with the person that entered later, so I bowed out. But you handled them very well! I left a message on Austrian's wall and it is meant for you too if you are interested. It's great to exchange thoughts on a topic that is not always well received. Austrian's wall could be our little 'non-theist's' corner:)

You're more than welcome. I would love to be in that type of place in my career, although I would love to find a job in my field at all. Music ed is such a competative market right now, so much so that I found out through an "insider," so to speak, that one of the many jobs I've applied for in the past four years had 118 applicants for the one position, and that was a middle school program. High school progams usually yield more applicants.
A good friend of mine was hired as the high school band director at Signal Mountain High when it opened, and I've taught his brass section during their summer band camp a for few years now. That man has it made in the shade and he's fully aware of it, especially for a public position. It's hard to believe the students there are as well behaved, focused and truly eager to be better musicians. After working for almost every area high school program in Chattanooga in some capacity over the past decade, I can say that in this area, those types of students are not rare, but for such a large population of the band fit the mold is indeed quite rare. (I've taught a lot of band camps, sectional rehearsals, student teaching, private lessons, etc.) And it actually comes as no surprise to me when one considers the demographics of that mountain. They tend to have parents who care. It's amazing what a good or even a decent home life can bring to the table regarding education, but no one seems to care about that in the state and federal buildings. Let's just blame the teachers for everything... Yeah, that's it. They must be the problem. :(
We watched a long movie last night that we started a little late. I saw the goings-on when we finished. I'm sorry I wasn't around to support you while it was happening. I did post a long response, although talking to my neighbor's dog would be more productive (the dog isn't delusional and he listens better!). For a few weeks mountainlaurel was the favorite target of this paranoid attention-seeker, now apparently we're the new targets.
I hope that you don't let them bother you too much. It seems like you have been here for a while and it is clear that you are well liked and highly respected by people on both sides of the political and ideological fence, and that many (including me) look forward to reading what you have to say. That won't change because of the irrational rantings of someone like this. This person must have nothing better to do with their time than to create conflict to make their miserable life more interesting. I feel sorry for them.
I have just read over our exchanges on austrian's page and, aside from his reference to the influence of the religious right as a 'cancer' to this country's educational system (which many would agree with), I really see nothing that could be considered offensive. I think World lives for melodrama, not the first person I've encountered like that. I'm not going to let it bother me or let it waste too much of my time.
BTW; do you have any good recipes for "babies"? I prefer mine with a spicy BBQ sauce, but a little variety might be nice ;-)

I'm fine, several years ogo, i wrote letters to the editor CTFP. I believe its harmless, but who knows. It was a person who works at the papper. I don't want to cause any trouble. I just don't want it to happen again! If he was to ride by my home again, i am afraid what my Husband might do. Its just not worth the worry, it has been fun, i will miss you!

I command you to see this clip. It’s Dylan Ratigan raving. His rant is neither left or right. He may have lost his cool, but he’s EXACTLY RIGHT. This is could just as easily be me arguing with friends and co-workers. Maybe if enough people see this and think a little bit, we might be able to avoid the fascism on the horizon.

I had to look back to see what you were talking about. You're hanging with the wrong people :). I do a fair amount of volunteer work, amongst alot of people, and there are always political discussions. Rarely have I heard a racist remark from black or white. Having said that, there are racists on both sides. You want to see what racist really sounds like, on both sides, go read the Memphis Commercial Appeal. One doesn't have to be white to be racist.
You are one of the few rational minds on here anymore. I think I'm going to take another break for a while and let the children and whackos of all stripes have it. Stay safe! And I enjoy conversing with you as well.
