If this is true, and not a case of "the trailer was a lost cause by the time the firefighters got there", it's despicable. To those people saying "OH MY GOD JUST PAY THE FEE", for some people out there it's not that simple. Some people can literally not afford an extra $75 from their budget. If you can, count your blessings that you aren't forced to make the choice between paying a fee that protects you and your home from a fire and feeding and clothing your children. Nevermind how I feel about having to pay for a service such as firefighting, the real issue that makes me angry is that the firefighters couldn't put the fire out and worry about the fee later. Charge them, send a bill, or something. If this truly was a matter of not paying a fee, and not just a home too far consumed by fire to be helped, then shame on this fire department.
I like how all that comes from Ms. Long's mouth are excuses, not promises to do better. All of this stuff happened on her watch and all she is saying is why it's not her fault. Own up to your mistakes and do better, or find someone else who will!!!
@ChattGuy1 and others: As I said before, Deborah is a very close friend of mine. She is getting her facts and information from people who currently work at the zoo, but are too afraid to step forward for fear of losing their jobs. They want to speak out and bring these issues up but in light of recent events, they are understandably too afraid to step forward (This is coming directly from her).
@PoorHank Deborah is one of my best friends and is the last person on earth to do something just to start drama. She's speaking up on behalf of the animals at the zoo that she took care of for years. I've heard stories about the zoo from people who worked there that absolutely appalled me. She's not capitalizing off of Hank's death, because his isn't the only one that's the issue here. If you knew Deborah you'd know that she loved those animals dearly and she's just trying to be an advocate for them. Don't talk badly about people when you know nothing about them.
I support Deborah 100%, and I applaud her for speaking out against the zoo! I've known her for a long time and it's about time that someone come forward about that place. I am proud of her for coming forward and saying something! Long live free speech!
Tennessee couple loses everything as firefighters watch home burn to the ground for want of a $75 fee
