I have personally witnessed 3 fights in the North Shore/South Shore areas in the last 3 months. Each one of them involved young black youths dressed in Hip Hop type attire and two of the three involved multiple individuals "ganging up" on one individual. In a separate instance, one of my best friends had a gun fired off over his head by a young black man on the Walnut St bridge as he walked by (this has already been reported by the police but later dismissed as fireworks...b.s.). In his account, there were at least several dozen other black youths whom were around him and surely one of them must have known who it was that fired the shots but not one person had the fortitude to implicate the person involved maybe because they feared for their own life and that is a sad thing for the black community and the rest of our fine city. This has become the new normal amongst these individuals. All one needs to do to see how these things get started is to take a walk across the Walnut St bridge on a Friday or Saturday night after about 10:30 or so during the summer. You will most likely find a few groups of punks that happen to be black heckling each other and flashing fancy (possibly gang) handshakes to each other. A white person is very likely to be heckled and harassed just for walking by. This type of activity is a blight on our wonderful city. I am not a racist person but I am willing to call it for what it is: If in fact this is a "minority" of the black community whom is involved in gang activity and intimidation within our city, then why can we not openly acknowledge that the black community needs to do something about this problem? I am a white man. I cannot walk into a black community discussing these things in this day and age and be accepted. I am sure I will be called a racist for this post and that has become typical. The fact is there are deplorable acts going on within the white community as well including meth etc. but these things are not as visible within the community as these gang bangers hanging out in our tourist areas reflecting poorly on our city. This is not a racist statement, it is simply the truth and sometimes the truth hurts. Just my opinion but the mayor would do well to pay attention to it because the folks that they want to move downtown to support these areas are certainly talking privately about these problems.

Wow. It's hard believe that a wonderful story of family success and "shootin" defending the restaurant after a negative comment from "enuf" prompted such a childish response. Chattanoogans are better than that. You should be ashamed of yourself for your attitude "enuf". If you want to get hateful with people, why dont you do it face to face instead of hiding behind a computer? Keeping a business open for 60 years is unbelieveable particularly when its a small family business. In order to stay open for that length of time you have to assume that the business is successful enough to provide for their families which means there are a lot of folks who dont agree with you "enuf".
