Mr. Orr, your comments have initiated me to the TFP on line opinions. I will wisely choose not to engage in a discussion, much less debate, with one who cannot be open to at least hearing another perspective. Nor will I dispute the truths you put forward here as your truths. But I feel compelled to simply state a few of my own.
First. I was born into this world as homosexual, thus it is not something I 'practice'- it is how I was made.
Second I have worked in health care for 20 years, including hospice. I have seen tremendous support from friends and family for those dying from aids. Yes, there are some who are abandoned, even by their church. But I have also seen many heterosexuals dying alone, forsaken by family and friends.
Third. This is the greatest of my truths. I already have a 'Loving Church congregation' where I have 'Brothers and Sisters in Christ' who choose what appears to be a different approach to Christianity than yours. Come and check us out. Pilgrim United Church of Christ.
Oh well, I do feel compelled to make one comment.Your statistics on the financial cost of AIDS are impressive. I would like to challenge you to research the public cost of treating heart and lung disease caused by those who chose to smoke, eat improperly, and lead a sedentary lifestyle.
