BRP, it was shocking to me when I woke to that realization, too.
It occured to me when I first became a home owner and realized that although I "bought" the property, could sell the property or offer as an inheritance, it would never be free and clearly mind. I would always owe the government payment on it.
I disagree Hambone. Francis is not likely a fake; although he fits a personality profile.
Franscis is 95% chance a Caucaisian, most likely Irish, Spanish or Italian.
Nearly 100% chane male.
Nearly 100% chane he is in his 50's and college educated.
There is about an 80% chance he's from the Midwest.
Chances are, he works in a job where he's lefts largely to his own devices. ( circular thinking thrives in this environment-- typical careers like this include radiologists, CAD artists, commercial draftsmen, and night watchmen- among others) of course all of these could be relatively accurate.
Clara, as a conservative, I'm as confused by Francis as you seem to be. He broadly denounces people he's against, but he fails to articulate a plan forward. Let's give him time . He's clearly enraged now. There is a possibility he will ultimately be able to promote a way forward rather than just bash the past.
I appreciate people like Francis. While he may be trying to wrestle his ideas into coherent arguments - I think he's capable of this- he's going to lead with the visceral.
While I do not approve of his tactics (he seeks to define others rather than engage and understand them) I think he is 100% sincere.
So keep posting Francis. While those one the right don't always get you, you clearly confound the left. You're like a scatter causer firework thrown into a crowd. No one quite knows where to run.
If Sarah Palin were actually all the Republicans had to offer, the party would be in real trouble.
I think she and Obama have mobilized the far right, but I don't think she's made any converts of moderates. Those have come in spite of her.
I think moderates and independents are flocking to the right because we are still struggling with job creation and debt. I think he would be a lot more popular if the economy had recovered to previous levels.
I'll take conservative supporters where and how we can get them, but let's not delude ourselves where they actually come from, or why they come.
rolando, I've heard about this 820 years statistic, too.
I don't know where it came from, but it's not correct.
It happens every time a 31 day month starts on a Friday.
I heard where it last happened in October was in 2004. I can't remember when it happens again in October, but it's something less than 20 years away. I'm sure someone else knows.
Oz, with all due respect, you misunderstand the law.
A hate crime would be when you kill someone because they are a gay, not just incidental to the fact.
If a gay person killed a straight man because he is straight, that can be prosecuted the same way.
I'm not aware of such a case being prosecuted this way, but this is the essence of a hate crime.
I'm not crazy about carving out special considerations for special populations, but I will admit, I don't think I've ever heard a gay person say things like straight people are perverted or abnormal or deviant or evil just because they are straight. The disdain for sexuality generally flow from heterosexuals and in the closet homosexual/bisexuals toward homosexuals.
I bet it's a matter of time before we see a hate crime committed by a homosexual.
I too, fail to see how someone's imagined feminine hygeine plays a role in this debate. grandmother made a point, and eeeeeek's response was about as sensible as "you stink".
Nanny-nanny, poo-poo arguments aren't very effective at persuasion, but his right support your right to speak them. I also support the paper's right to remove them if they are off color.
I was never comfortable with the SCOTUS ruling to allow major coporations donate and conceal such donations to influence elections.
We fought a civil war so that the "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
This ruling and the rules allowing concealment makes the government even more than ever, "of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations...."
I do think some liberals would not be yelling so loudly about this if the bulk of the money was heading to the Democrats.
As a Republican, I think this policy stinks. Only major contributors should have to be disclosed, but they should be disclosed.
Openess in government is essential to a free society.
Rock!

Midterm Election
Those wounds are fresh.
Must have been the Democrat boomerang!
This year, I'm taking a true conservative for a spin.... Vote For Savas!
Screech!

Trickle Down
SCOTTYM, just so you know, I'm hardest on the people who are on my side. It's a way of challenging myself, too.
I'll admit TARP was a stretch.
