One contributing factor for the increase in cost of health care is from government intervention on both State and Federal levels. They have mandated coverage that insurance companies must provide, granted some mandated coverage was needed like required time of a hospital stay after some surgeries. Each intrusion into the policy creates a cost we all pay for. Example, alcohol rehabilitation, policies carry coverage for this; if I am not a drinker, why should I be forced to pay for this coverage. If I am a senior and no longer going to reproduce, I still pay for maternity care, why? An ala cart policy should be available, coverage that I will not use I should be able to remove and reduce my cost of insurance. This would raise the cost to some, for example the maternity care would be paid for from the people who would use it.

Health insurance should be set up like auto insurance, after major medical/catastrophic coverage and accidental/ emergency medical coverage you pay for the coverage you want. If you chose prescription drug coverage, maternity coverage etc. you pay for the additional coverage. It should be portable and not tied to your employment. How many people stay in a job they hate just because of the health insurance?

Set up a State pool, similar to what the postal service has with open enrollment each year. Use all the insurance companies that are license to do business in the State. Let the people pick the policy which best represents their coverage needs, remove the pre-existing condition as long as the person has had coverage in the prior year. Allow surcharge for smoking, alcohol and for morbidly obsess people.

Any Federal insurance coverage should be stop gap coverage and only cover the basic needs or emergency. It should be temporary, and require a co-pay for the coverage and use of service to avoid abuse. People must qualify for the coverage and it should only be available to U.S. citizens. My tax dollars should not pay for insurance due to someone who would rather have cable TV instead of medical insurance.

They should repeal the current stimulus bill. Any item that received appropriations must prove that it will generate a sustainable job, not a short term project or they lose the funding. They should review where all of our Tax dollars are being spent, remember that they are spending our money and our children’s money. Most of all federal spending is unconstitutional in the first place. They should have to list where in the constitution it allows for the federal spending. If they followed the constitution which list federal and state powers, we would all receive a large refund.

Congress and Senate are guilty of this; they have violated our trust and have failed to represent us. Bills should be limited to a single subject. No amendments, each item should be voted on and should be able to stand on its own merit and must have the name of the sponsor attached to it. No more hidden spending, no more mass appropriation bills, it is too easy to hide waste and favors. If you feel it is just use of our tax dollars then you should not be ashamed to place your name on it. They should also list where in the Constitution grants the power for the law to be passed. Remember they are creating a law which gives the government the right to use force upon us. Will they send a federal agent to your house with guns drawn because you fail to use a low flow toilet, probably not, but that is the power behind the bills they pass.

Every American should write, email, and phone their elected officials and demand they read the bill, reduce the size of the bill and require the bills to be on a single subject. Things will not change until the American people put the pressure on the elected officials, our voice and votes and monetary contributions matter.

Next time a drug ad comes on TV, close your eyes and listen to it, funny how the message changes when you are not watching all the pretty pictures.

Our elected officials are failing us. To prove my point just look at HR 2454 American Clean Energy and Security Act passed by the House on Friday June 26, 2009 for it has just stripped you of more powers. You have just lost your right to set building codes for your City, County and State.

Have you asked your elected officials why haven’t they called Congress and the Senate to let them know they are capable of doing their job. Why do we have State, County and City elections if they are going to allow Congress to strip them of their responsibilities, and our constitutional right of State government?

Regardless if you are a Democrat or a Republican this Federal power grab has to stop. Let them know you are worthy of your job and the people who voted you into office think you are capable of doing your job. If you do not start standing up for your job and States rights, you have lost my vote.

Look at the States that have strong unions, or democratic control, high unemployment, high taxes. Unions are losing members; democrats are losing donations and, that is why we have the card check bill in congress now. Not to protect workers, follow the money, for they want yours and to strip you of your rights. We have labor laws to protect workers; if you do not like what your job responsibilities or the pay you receive, you are not forced to work for the company. The only people who need unions are the politicians mostly democrats and yes a few republicans too. Could someone explain why government workers need a union?

An open letter to all Governors, State Representatives, State Senators, Mayors, and City Council members.

Your silence has me baffled and wondering why we have State, County, and City elections. Why are you sitting silently by as the U.S. House and Senate strip you of your powers to govern? Let them know you expect them to horror the Constitutional powers granted to the State. By standing up and protecting your responsibilities you are protecting my rights as a resident of your State, County and City.
