I have used both ATT and Verizon in the last 9 months, and have been a mobile phone user for 15 years. I have to say that ATT has the worst service in Chattanooga, I live in North Chatt and every day from 10-2 it was always a toss up on whether my calls would be dropped while workign from home. I have to say I am glad I have gone back to Verizon and I have the iphone and I have to say so what I can't talk and surf at the same time right now, atleast I can make and recieve calls!
Hotdog you and everyone has the right to post, but throwing out racists comments isn't helping is it? You are tyring to bait a racists convsation are you not? Tell me this what solutions do you have to try and stop the shootings and the gangs violence? I feel sorry for you for and your loss of your son, but playing the name game back and forth with others is not helping anything just creates more animosity. We need to lead by example and playing the name game isn't help, the key word is tolerance. I do not have the answers, but I want to help and I want all this crap and yes I said crap(would use other words, but it wouldn't be posted) to stop violence solves nothing!!!!!! Neither does name calling!
hotdog I thnk it is great you have 3 businesses! No one is dogging you out for that. Please get over trying to defend yourself there are some on here that want to get down to discussing solutions and I do not see how you have three business and multiple certs helps. Or maybe you could go open up a business / mentor and employ these so called gang memebers and teach them to be a contributor to society instead of taker.
Antilimit I want you to know that you are someone that the community needs, no more black, white, purple, blue, or green community, just simply community. I fully apprecitate a black man wanting to try and step up and directly address the issues facing the community as a whole. I am a white man and I want to say thanks for being a black man and trying to address the black community, becasue if I do then I am immediately labeled as a racists. Personnally I am frustrated with lots of the points you bring to light on the differences of the white community and black community, I just want us to all come together as a community, who cares black or white. I am upset with the mayor and the police chief with their response and the so called signs who are they kidding? On one hand I wish Mr Talk Radio himself Andre McGary would try and step up as this could help his political career that he so dearly holds. If he truly wants to be a leader (you notice that I didn't say black leader) he should try and help bring solutions to the table. I think he has the greatest platform as he is on the radio ever weekday, and he spent his entire show yesterday screaming about what the mayor will do or won't do why not spend the time debating solutions, nope he waited until the last 10 minutes of his show. I live on the NorthShore and visit Fraiser and Coolidge park multiple times a week and walk around during the night and I have to say I am little dispeleased while walking across the bridge on a Saturday night and I hear a young kid and his buddies glamourizing they have guns and want to shoot someone, it kills me to hear this, where has the society gone. My question is what can be done, I understand everyone wants to scream the parents, the issue I see is these kids parents are absence for many issues(I do not wnat to debate this) I just want to help these kids. The one point I always say when others int he community discuss this entire gang thing in Chattanooga, do they not understand that they are commiting Genocide, black on black crime. On last quick note that I see from a black and white community thing you are right white folks will stand up and not tolerate the issues and demand things to change, as for the black community it seems as though it is glamourized to be thug/gang member, why is that? Again I really want to get rid of the black / white community thing, we are all citzens of Chattanooga!
Mr. Hightower's article is somewhat true, but it is not a complete recollection of the meeting yesterday and it doesn't tell all the reasons of why the city is investigating making the change. It is easy to bring up the money aspect and that always gets lots of citizens in a stir, but for future articles it would be nice if Mr. Hightower would try and report both sides of the story not just try and sell more newspapers. There is no mention of saftey concerns or the requests from the schools for a crosswalk. I know lots of people do not like to hear safety, but in this case it is a true concern. It would be nice if Mr Hightower would spend the time to sit down with the city and write a complete story and show all sides pros and cons. He didn't even mention the presentation that Mr Van Winkle prepared using real data for the meeting showing traffic counts as well as other items. Nor did he state that Mr Van Winkle didn't want to do this until he reviewed the track counts and other factors compiled by the city and decided that this might work so why not try something out that costs the tax payer NOTHING. It would be nice if Mr. Hightower would ask the city for the presentation and write a complete story utilzing the numbers shown last night. If we are to allow this change to run its course it might impact the driving habits of the commutors and the city has data that supports this statement in other areas of the community, maybe you could use that infomration in your next story Mr Hightower. Time will tell, and you have to give change and chance. I hear the voices of those who are against the change, but lets examine their complaints further. One I heard last night was I cross 2 lanes of traffice to merge into the lane that is backed up. Couldn't you pull into the center lane and turn on your blinker and then you will be able to merge, how difficult is that? The traffic is slowed down to a minimum speed if not stopped so what really is the safety concern from that arguement? Second the person quoted in the article states that it has added 5 minutes to her commute. 5 more mintues, hmmmm. Just this morning I took a look at Barton at 8am and traffic was flowing freely and as I am writing this note traffic is flowing freely as well. During the afternoon commute I have never seen the traffic backed up? I understand the traffic backs up around 7:30-7:45 and that is when the police officer is in front of GPS, thus slowing down the traffic and how dare we take 5 more minutes for the safety of parents and children turning into GPS? Oh yeah in school zone isn't the speed limit 15mph? It would be nice if we didn't have to make changes, but in life you do not always get what you want and wouldn't it be great if people didn't speed? In closing I want to say 2 things: 1. It would be nice if Mr Hightower would tell the complete story 2.Please give it a chance it isn't costing the city anything to try!
I am for the speeding cameras. The speeding cameras have proven themselves over and over in the reduction of accidents, but that isn't the only benefit they provide. They really do provide safety for the pedistrians walking along the side of the road on the sidewalks. On Barton Avenue for instance, the area is residential with a main raod and access to downtown. The people in the neighborhood utilize the sidewalks for all kinds of reasons; walking/jogging with the family to the park or downtown. Don't we want to encourage our citizans to exercise instead of riding in our cars? Shouldn't we enjoy the great city we live in? There are some pros to slowing down.
I got an answer why don't drivers slow down? I live in North Chatt and it amazes me the speed that people go on Barton avenue and on Frazier. the traffic cameras can only do so much as well as the cops it takes us the people to slow down! I see many bikers, runners, walkers, strollers on a daily basis and I am one of them as well and it sometimes scares me to death to walk down the street on Barton. Funny that everyone thinks that Barton is some 4 lane highway with a median, do you not realize this is a residential area? I pray that no one gets hurt including me! Oh well you got to speed to get home I know time is valuable, but here is a word of advise if you want to drive fast to and from work get on the intersate or get on Hwy 27 stay off Barton cause you just might get a ticket from the cameras
Come on you must live in the burbs. Being new to Chattanooga, but not TN, I like to hear more money being invested in the downtown area. As for parking I got an idea park your car somewhere other than right in front of the restaurant and walk or ride the free shuttle, heck maybe you could use some exercise. As for the investment in downtown I particularly like the thought of having a thriving downtown instead of having everything at Hamilton Place, aren't you tired of strip malls and malls? One of the best things about Chattanooga is the downtown area if we didn't have the thriving downtown then Chattanooga would be just like every other city with strip malls and people driving cars every where and no tourism dollars. I agree with the condos comment a little, because I have to question how many people can afford the $200+ condos (maybe baby boomers, but they are losing money in the market) when the median household income is $42,000, however I think you would be surprise that there is a major shift in America in wanting toliving closer to work/play areas, not every person has to participate in the sprawl effect of the past 20 years. Hey times they are a changing either get on the bus or move some where you are happy. I have to question people like you where do you live?
$13 per pound for shrimp and $8 a pie are a little steep. Last week you could find shrimp in the store for $5.99-$8.99 per pound for medium to xlarge shrimp. Just another example of govt waste. I am all for the soliders being taken care of, but I am sure someone got their pockets stuff as well as their bellies on Thanksgiving.
unbelievable haven't we advanced past this stuff? Bringing up Title VI from 1964, wasn't that 40+ years ago? Didn't we just elect a minority president?

Chattanooga: Cashing in on car cameras
