I find it hard to believe that people are so willing to turn over their family planning responsibilities to mostly a group of old men in the Tennnessee legislature. Amendment 1 is invasive, dangerous, and is so foreign to what we were taught to believe about our nation's freedom and values. Vote "No" on this attrocity!
As for Rep. Fleischmann, name three things he has done for his contituents. Okay then, name one.
So Ms. Hazelwood shares many of the views and positions of Richard Floyd. And this is a plus? No wonder this state struggles so hard to progress.
allahsyoungerbrother aludes to an interesting point on "dropping off unwanted newborns" to one's house. This has always been my problem with anti-abortion proponents. It is their desire to make a LEGAL RIGHT of women to have abortions illegal and to pressure those women who wish to manage their families or women who have little means to support a child to bear one. If we want to enact laws on this issue, one should be that those who oppose abortion should pay child support until that child is 18. Sound ridiculous? It's no more ridiculous than the hypocracy of those who would force a birth to occur then walk away from any responsibility for that child afterword. Totally disgusting.
Questions of the Day: Do religious people have souls? Do capitalistic corporations have souls?
It's amazing how much every issue turns around and gets muddled up in one's religious beliefs. As a result, nothing gets solved because religion is open to everyone's interpretation. No right, no wrong;just endless stalemate. A true waste of time and breath. What it comes down to is whether we are a democracy or a theocracy. Add to that a hypocritical plutocracy that uses religious fervor to gain control of a country for its personal gain. Today, a lot of ridiculous decisions are being handed down by the Supreme Court that grant over-reaching powers to corporations. Coupled with a very broken Congress, individual rights and freedoms are being lost. Even so, the most vocal extremists out there as well as our elected and appointed national officials are extremely out of touch with most Americans and their values. In the long run when a threshold is crossed the pendulum will swing back.
Does anyone know to what address I can send Robin Smith a fresh dead horse to beat while nothing of importance gets done?
Timbo: Thank you Neal Degrasse Tyson. You should get your own show and call it "Cosmos: It's Where My Head's At." Tell me where you got your physicist's degree.
I'm a liberal democrat about to give Old Timbo a heart attack. What's so brave or courageous about Corker taxing working people and middle incomes 12 more cents at the pump? Infrastructure is the government's responsibility. If the Highway Trust Fund needs more money, Corker should push his party to reallocate some of the billions of dollars of taxpayer funded subsidies handed out to corporations, multi-nationals, and the fossil fuel industry. That would take real guts. Taxing the already over-burdened while letting profiteers skate is typical of Corker and Republicans. He's beginning to look and act a lot like Eric Cantor. And I'll look for personal income tax cuts from Republicans when I see them coming.
Great capper to the 108th General Assembly. After all the looney, laughable legislation Republicans passed or tried to pass in Nashville, whenever I travel out of state and people ask me where I'm from, I now tell then I'm from Texas.
