The long wait has to do with the fact that it is the region's only trauma hospital, as well as a large neuro and cardiac center. Therefore, it stays very busy with critically ill patients. Secondly, many people come in to be seen for things that they could very easily go to their primary physician for. So yes, the ER does get very backed up. But again, it has nothing to do with insurance coverage. Infact, the nurses don't even see insurance status when having to decide what patients to take back from the waiting room.
