Benburk, I think a better way to convince people to follow in the message of Christ is to lead by example through kind acts as Jesus did. The likelihood of someone driving by and thinking he needs to strengthen his spiritual health is much lower seeing a giant, gaudy, expensive cross than the impact of feeling the human connection of caring for others.
And Elk, do tell where you read this writer was advocating for denying rights. Interesting that the "conservative media" can jump on talking about how awful out of control spending is and then spending $700,000 on metal crosses is a-ok.
I work for a non-profit. We operate on a shoe string budget to provide very valuable services for my community's families. It's painful to think how many kids and families we could serve with $700,000. Great points, David.
