Thousands attend the "Running of the Chihuahuas"
Thousands of people attended the sixth annual "Running of the Chihuahuas" at the First Tennessee Pavilion on Saturday. The event, sponsored by Hits96 radio station, featured live musical performances, vendor booths and more than 100 dogs participating in the races.

After heavy rains washed out part of the W Road on Signal Mountain, Hamilton County engineers sought the help of GeoStabilization International, a company that will help to repair the road. The work, which should be completed in about nine weeks, is estimated to cost $776,000.

Local schools showcase skills in robotics at TVA
The Tennessee Valley Authority welcomed 27 schools from Tennessee and Alabama to their downtown Chattanooga offices Tuesday to showcase their skills using robotics. Throughout the year, elementary, middle and high school students built robots as a way to complement their curriculum and learn the necessary math and science skills for the experiment.

A construction access road washed out over the weekend, prompting workers to turn their attention to shoring up the throughway before work on the main road could continue. The work is expected to be completed in mid-June or about eight weeks from now.

Dalton podiatrist Dr. Spence Misner used stem cell therapy to help regrow tissue on Bobby Rice's foot through a series of treatments every three to four weeks. Rice lost a large amount of skin, muscle, and blood vessels to a flesh-eating virus 18 months ago.

Since January, local veterans have shared the camaraderie of their service while participating in kayaking classes organized by the Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Department. The program allows veterans with disabilities and their families to learn basic kayaking skills in the pool and on open water.

Despite data showing that high schoolers are among those most likely to go to bed late, many local high schools are among the earliest institutions to start classes each morning. Local students and administrators at Red Bank High School, which starts at 7:15 a.m., have mixed feelings about whether to move to a later schedule. The Hamilton County Department of Education has been against changing schedules thus far.
