Seven high school students were arrested this morning after a large brawl broke out in the cafeteria at Central High School, Hamilton County Sheriff's officials say.

The fight sparked shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday morning, said sheriff's spokeswoman Janice Atkinson.

"It was a large confrontation between two groups," Atkinson said, who added that the two groups have had long-standing opposition. She said she could not confirm whether the fight was gang-related.

The students refused to comply with orders from school officials and the School Resource Officer, so extra deputies were dispatched to help break up the fight, said Atkinson.

Atkinson said no students had to receive medical treatment, and that no weapons were used.

Of the seven students arrested, only one - an 18-year-old was not a juvenile. His name has not yet been released.

All of the students were charged with disorderly conduct, and one was charged with vandalism because of damage to school property, said Atkinson.

School officials were not immediately available for comment.
