Xpress Global was acquired by Aterian Investment Partners in 2018, then bought two competitors in 2021 and another earlier this year. Xpress Global also launched an online customer portal this year.

XGS prides itself on an innovative, people-centric culture – CEO Dan Martin cites XGS Cares, which handles employee engagement regarding volunteerism, for which he says each employee gets two paid days per year, and recognition programs.

"When we started [in April 2021], the [employee] turnover rate was in the 110-percent range – industry best-practice for transportation/logistics is about 65 percent. Today, our rolling 12-month average is about 61 percent and our last 12 months [February 2021 to February 2022] was under 20 percent.
"I think it always starts with communications. We needed to develop transparent communications, make sure people were compensated properly and do things to really develop people. It's a constant flow of communications with employees – they have opportunities to ask questions in a town-hall-style meeting we have every month, and we don't shy away from the tough ones. We did our first [employee] survey in August [2021]; what we've heard back is that our employees better understand the vision of the company."
