Tornado watch issued in the Chattanooga region

A tornado watch has been issued for several communities in Tennessee and Virginia, including counties in the Chattanooga area. 

The watch is in effect until 2 a.m. EDT. It includes Hamilton, Rhea, Bledsoe, Meigs, Marion and other surrounding counties. 

"These storms will have the potential to deliver damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes," according to Local 3 News.

Some schools in the Chattanooga area released students early Tuesday because of the threat of severe weather.

Early Dismissals

— Bledsoe County Schools: Dismissal 11:30 a.m.

— Hamilton County Schools: Dismissing one hour early.

— Meigs County Schools: Close at 1 p.m.

— Sequatchie County Schools: Dismissal 12:50 p.m.

— Grundy County Schools: Dismissal at 1:30 p.m.

— Bradley County Schools: Elementary schools dismiss at 1:40 p.m., secondary schools at 2:30 p.m.
