McMINN CENTRAL CHARGERS

Head coach: Derrick Davis (3-7 in one year here; 126-95 overall)

Returning starters: 4 offensive; 5 defensive

Key players: RB/LB Jace Derrick (5-10, 225); OL/DL Isaac Dean (6-2, 225); OL Seth Holladay (6-3, 305); RB/DL Rylan Ridge (6-1, 205); RB/LB Jesse Shambley (6-1, 190); RB/DB Harley McCormick (5-9, 170); TE/DE Landon Watkins (6-1, 190); QB/DB Blake Elrod (6-0, 165).

Team strengths: Overall roster numbers have improved, so there's a little more team speed and depth at most positions. Coach Davis also said the work ethic has improved from last year.

Team concerns: Davis inherited a program that had gone a combined 1-19 the two seasons before he arrived, and it's taking longer than hoped for the players to learn to raise their intensity to match the level of their opponents. The Chargers are still learning how to overcome adversity.
