Staff photo by Robin Rudd / Whitwell football fans cheer for the Tigers during their victory over Connersville in the TSSAA Class 1A BlueCross Bowl state final on Dec. 1, 2018, at Tennessee Tech. In 2019, the Tigers totaled just three wins, though one was in the playoffs, and this season they'll have their third head coach in as many years.

WHITWELL TIGERS

Head coach: Jake Cabell (first year here; 1-9 overall)

Returning starters: 5 offensive; 6 defensive

Key players: WR/K Evan Nunley; OL/DL Gage Gipson; RB/DB Cole Burns; TE/LB Jacob Winchester; OL/DL Ricky Perry; OL/DL Zach Scissom; WR/DB Colton Britton; WR/DB Chandler Britton; RB/LB Westley Nunley.

Team strengths: There is better than average speed with the return of Burns and the addition of sophomore twins Colton and Chandler, which gives the offense reliable threats to make big plays.

Team concerns: The Tigers must replace almost their entire offensive and defensive fronts and adjust to a third head coach in as many seasons.
