Aside from humans, there is only one other mammal known to enjoy spicy foods: Chinese tree shrews. In fact, these mammals, the smallest in tropical Asian forests, could likely eat even the most ardent pepper-lover under the table. This is due to a mutation in the shrew species that makes it less sensitive to capsaicin, the "hot" chemical in peppers.
