Your Tuesday at a glance:

Good morning, Chattanooga!

Following a few weeks of chaotic scenes from Afghanistan, last week I worked on an article about the possibility of Afghan refugees resettling in the Chattanooga area. While the plans are still in the beginning stages, the community has already shown an outpouring of support for the efforts.

"As Americans, as Chattanoogans, we've always opened our welcoming hands and our big hearts to people in need," said Marina Peshterianu, associate director of Bridge Refugees Services. "Hopefully, we will be able and well equipped to do it now."

In my article, you can read more about the planning process for settlement and learn how Chattanooga can help through donations, volunteering and building community around our possible new neighbors who have been through hard times.

"It's about collaboration and partnership more than financial support," Peshterianu said. "[Refugees] can work, people can support themselves. They need very little initial assistance. What we want and what we are always looking for is the ability to integrate, the ability to not be a stranger in your own community."

Now for some recent stories:

NEVER TOO OLD: Have you heard of grandfluencers? Many people ages 70 and up have amassed substantial followings on social media with the help of decades-younger fans.

BACK TO SCHOOL: Tomorrow is the last day to vote in our back-to-school picture contest for a $500 shopping spree.

LET'S EAT: Here is a recipe for a Mexican street corn salad that features avocado.
