The average price of a gallon of gas in Chattanooga fell by 2.9 cents per gallon last week to $2.47 a gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 170 gas outlets in Chattanooga released today.

Chattanooga gas prices averaged 31 cents per gallon below the U.S. average of $2.78 per gallon on Sunday and were 90.3 cents per gallon below the same time a year ago, GasBuddy said.

"The national average continued its slow retreat in the last week, but current events with Greece may have some bearing on the market in the week ahead and could put downward pressure on oil prices," Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst, said in a statement today. "Much is waiting in the wings in regards to Greece and with the latest round of debt relief talks failing thus far, it may weigh on stocks and commodities in the week ahead. Regardless of Greece, I believe gas prices nationally will eke out a third straight weekly decline- though a negative outcome in the Greece situation stands to enhance the expected downward momentum."
