GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - It's not unheard of for an arrested person to try breaking out of a police department, but in one Georgia community officers at police headquarters charged a man with breaking in.

The Gainesville Times reports that police arrested 32-year-old Samuel Espejel-Sanchez on charges including interfering with government property.

Officials say Espejel-Sanchez broke into the Gainesville Police Department early Sunday morning by climbing a fence. Officers inside the building heard "glass shattering and noises" from a secured area. Officials said the suspect broke windows and doors, causing hundreds of dollars in damage.

Police say he appeared to be hallucinating and claimed that people were after him.

He was booked into the Hall County Jail. It's unclear if he has an attorney.

Gainesville is about 55 miles northeast of Atlanta.
