A child was ejected from a car Monday afternoon during a crash involving a Cobb County police officer, Georgia State Patrol said.

The 2-year-old was in a car seat, but unrestrained, when an SUV spun out of control after being hit by the patrol car, GSP officials told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Authorities said a silver Nissan Pathfinder was turning left from Whisper Lane onto Riverside Parkway when the Cobb County Transit bus obscured its view. The vehicle failed to yield and was struck by the cop car.

Officials said the rear driver-side door was broken on impact as the SUV began rotating in a counter-clockwise direction.

The toddler was in a forward-facing car seat in the back seat of the Nissan, but wasn't properly secured, according to GSP.

"The seat was not restrained properlyand the child was apparently not restrained at all," officials said. "The child was ejected through the window during the vehicle's rotation."

GSP said the child suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.

No other details were released.
