UPDATE: George Heddleston, UTC Vice Chancellor Communications and Marketing, confirmed Thursday that Cantrell and Wiram have been put on paid administrative leave and been advised not to come on campus while on leave.

ORIGINAL STORY: James "Chuck" Cantrell, UTC associate vice chancellor of marketing and communication, and Joseph Wiram, coordinator for veteran student services, have been cited for public indecency.

The misdemeanor citation issued Sunday comes after an undercover investigation by the Chattanooga Police Department into Cinema One, an adult movie theater located at 4100 Rossville Boulevard.

On Nov. 3, an undercover officer visited the theater after receiving complaints of sexual activity taking place inside the establishment.

While there, the officer saw Cantrell, 55, engaged in a sex act. Information gathered from affidavits states Wiram, 59, and another man, Scott Jarrett, 49, were cited separately for masturbating inside the theater.

Cantrell was not arrested but was booked and processed into the jail's system as part of the terms of the citation. Jarrett was also booked and processed Sunday, and Wiram is scheduled to appear at the jail for booking and processing Monday.

All three men are scheduled to appear in court Jan. 2, 2018.

George Heddleston, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's vice chancellor for communications and marketing, told the University Echo that the university is aware of the incident but could not comment because of legal matters.
