Man shot in Lee Highway Mapco robbery attempt

Chattanooga police say a man was shot at 12:56 a.m. today inside the Mapco at 6200 Lee Highway.

According to a news release, the suspect came into the store with a gun and demanded money from the register. The suspect then jumped the counter, shot 24-year-old Paul Evans and ran away from the store.

Hamilton County EMS transported the victim to a Chattanooga hospital, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening wound.

This is the second shooting at that Mapco in six weeks. On Oct. 25, according to a Chattanooga police incident report, a suspect shot 39-year-old Jonathan Smith, who also suffered a non-life-threatening injury. Smith told police the suspect demanded money before shooting him, according to a release at the time.
