A member of the Walker County board of education stepped down last week, said Superintendent Damon Raines.

The board accepted a letter of resignation from Charles Wilson on Feb. 14. Wilson, who joined the board in 2015, cited medical reasons in his letter, Raines said.

Wilson said he could not continue working on the board because of health problem that began in November.

He believed the issue would go away on its own, but he had to go to the hospital multiple times in December and received surgery in January.

"I just don't have the time to work with the schools," he said this evening.

He hopes to be politically active again when he recovers.

The board is in the process of picking a replacement for the remainder of Wilson's term, which would have run through 2018.

The board will pick a resident who lives in District 2, which mostly occupies Rossville.
