A Hanceville, Ala., man was arrested Wednesday in a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 75-year-old Cullman, Ala., woman on May 14.

Larry Surrett, 58, was charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident, tampering with evidence and driving on a revoked license, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's spokesman Curtis Summerville said Cullman resident Helen Virginia Duke was killed in the collision almost three weeks ago just inside Good Hope, Ala., when she was struck by a vehicle that remained at-large until this week.

Surrett was arrested after a traffic homicide investigation was launched the day of the crash. Authorities determined Surrett was driving a 1999 Ford Expedition when he struck and killed Duke on Schwaiger Road, Summerville said. The collision damaged the passenger-side mirror of the suspect's vehicle.

Surrett was arrested at 4:45 p.m. CDT Wednesday and booked at the Cullman County Jail.

No further information is being released for now, Summerville said.
